A week ago the singer I play for and I were working on some new songs when he accidentally or should I say carelessly drew on the front of one of the keys with his pencil. Not thinking it a big deal I left it till the next day. First I tried an eraser to rub it out, that didn't work, then a liquid soap, no go, I have also used a citris based spray cleaner (carefully) and while it's not half as noticeable now it's still there.
Any suggestions anyone?
I love this board very much but I have serious reservations about the durability of the key tops and fronts. After 5 months of playing I have several notes with rough patches on the front end of the key tops caused by the side of the thumb nails. Everything about the NX is tank like but the material used on the keys. The plastic tops on my old RD700 was pristine after many years use as with my SV1 also after alot of use. I like the feel of the NX key tops but I don't mind the plastic tops either and I'd much rather a plastic top that gives no problems than something that I may get too paranoid about to gig with.
Anyone else struggling with this?
Roland RD700NX, Korg SV1 88.

Well, a number of folks have had similar experiences.
Fortunately, Roland's customer support is excellent, and I gather that they will replace the keybed under the instrument's warranty.

You might want to ask for a non-ivory feel replacement (regular shiny plastic keys) - that's what I would do at this point if I were you.

Is that still an option, though? Is there such a thing as 'PHAIII without Ivory Feel'?

Hmm, good question. It probably wouldn't hurt to ask.

I would think it should be the same keys that went into the RD-700GX(F) which had PHA II. the 3rd sensor shouldn't have an affect on the plastic key itself. Since the RD-700GX(F) and FP-7 both shared the PHA II (the FP-7 with non-Ivory Feel keys), perhaps one could request those keys. Worth a shot.
