Hey all,
Someone about 10 minutes from me is selling an old Rd-300s on craigslist. I got him down to $100.00. He says it works perfectly with the exception of a dropped key (guess it won't come up). Just called Roland and sure enough the spring is available so hopefully that's the problem. I would like this specifically for vintage purposes. I remember this was the DP that my old piano teacher had in his studio and I used to play it whenever I was there. Would be interesting to compare it with my new FP-7F, haha!
I have the room for it. Not going to gig with it, of course. What do you think?

Well, I'd go play it first, and if NOTHING else is wrong, $100 seems like a steal. However, you'll have to factor in what it costs to replace the spring unless you can that.

As for comparing it to the FP-7F...err don't expect any miracles! You're comparing one of the best playing, best sounding DPs out there with a much less sophisticated and dated stage piano.

i have a rd-250s - which is basically the same thing - 100 is a steal - i stole my many years ago for 250.00 and I'd be hard pressed to sell my for less than 300.00 - they are great pianos. Getting the key out requires a bit of finess - but I have taken out a few and moved them around - one had a chip in it. So you can just move the bad key to the end octave or replace the spring - it might be also a plastic clip that broke - in that case you need a new key. I would think Roland had the whole key still - they did about 7 years ago when I asked.

I owned one of these for 11 years, midi-ed up to a RA95. Only replaced it when the original RD700 came out. While it has only about 8 sounds I loved it. The two piano sounds are somewhat dated now but the clav sound was awesome especially down low, bit like a funky bass. The two EPs it had (taken from the RD1000 and Roland's MSK20 rack) defined the '80's ballad sound, (think Whitney Houstoun). It's only with the 700NX that Roland have gone someway to bringing these two EP sounds back.

It's a heavy mother though, the 300s weighs over 33kgs. Worth alot more than $100.00. I still have regrets of moving it on.

Roland RD700NX, Korg SV1 88.
