If anybody here is a singer in addition to being a piano player, does anybody else find it SUCH an amazing experience to play and sing at the same time? I LOVE it!

Same here Miles. I've performed many times singing and accompanying myself on piano. It's very satisfying.

I love to play and sing but I prefer that I keep my voice to myself. I've always heard the best pianists can sing along. Watching performers faces would be a dead give away for some pianists.

I play for a great singer. She can also play piano and sing, but when she does both she tends to simplify her piano playing. I don't sing but I really enjoy accompanying a talented singer more than any other instrument.

I think it is really fun to sing, but I would never do it in public. I wish I had the voice to make some real Rock n Roll and boogie woogie shows though. smile

I, too, would love to be able to play and sing at the same time. I find it really hard though! Any practice tips you recommend?

One of two things normally happens to me. Either my hands start to play the same melody as what I'm singing, or I tend to sing the melody in the same beats as to what I'm playing. I think that whatever I happen to be concentration more on at the time tends to take over both!

A perfect opportunity to advertise my video (where I sing and play the piano): a song that I wrote: Serenade wink

I recorded a Vocal CD around 5 years ago. I re-arranged and re-harmonized some Beatle tunes , some Standards and a few misc. pop songs.

Here's the Sting tune "Fields of Gold" from that CD

edit--removed and placed in the non-Classical member recordings

Thanks Vishnu, much appreciated.

Yeah that was me.... wink I added some info on the track so there wouldn't be any confusion...

Maybe I'll put up a few more in the Member recordings section...

Liszt, Great job with 'Seranade', really cool.

Dave, 'Fields of Gold': Good song and good performance.

I've always sung and played (guitar) and have only recently come to piano bringing that background with me. I still intend to play and sing. There is a link to an example in my signature. The purpose of the sample was to get validation/comments/guidance on my approach to playing more than anything else. I know the left hand needs work and the vocal is a one take only.

Guitar since 1966. Piano (Kawai DP80) since 2011.

I love it, but I haven't done it for a while. It's wonderful; especially with hymns. I must start doing it more often.

I love to accompany myself on the piano and also play as part of a duo band where I do the backing singing. It releases good energy and I always end up in a happy mood!!!! It just brings out the best in people.
