I'm sorry if I've asked too many questions about this frown but I'm trying to decide.

I was previously deciding between the P155 and the FP-7F, but after running some numbers, it's much better for my student budget to stay within the $1000 range.

So, I'm just considering the P155 vs the CL26. I know that the CL26 hasn't been out for long, but I would love if someone that has previous experience with the old CL series (CL25 or CL35) has any input concerning the sound.

I'm pretty ok with the Yamaha P155 and Kawai CN23 action (I know that the CL-series action is a step down), so I'm mostly concerned about sound. The P155 high-end annoys me a bit, and the Kawai samples of the CL26 I've heard sound much more pleasing and soft.

Technically, I believe the P155 samples are heavily stretched, whereas the Kawai samples are not. Am I correct?

There are no local dealers that stock the CL series, the CN23 is the cheapest Kawai they sell, so I can't compare them in person.

Any opinions?

After much searching, it seems like the CL26 shares the same sound source as the old CN22 (minus some features). Just Harmonic Imaging + 88 note sampling.

Edit2: Well, it seems like the CL35 has the same sound source also.

What about CL36? It has better sound source (PHI), better hammer action (RH) and nicer key touch (matt, or "ivory touch"). I think this is the best deal for the money in your comparison ...

Yep, but I'm in the US, and there's no way I can get the CL36, unfortunately.

copperx, the CL26 does indeed use the same sound and action technology as the CL35/CN22.

Kind regards,
James

How come there's no Kawai CL series in dpbsd? Are they impossible to test, like the Korg SP170?

old Gaveau upright & Kawai CA63; previously Korg SP250

Probably because nobody has submitted a sample for dewster to analyse.
They both have MIDI connectors and headphone jacks, so it shouldn't be too difficult to record these models running the DPBSD test.

Cheers,
James
