They were medium quality pianos from Holland.

No longer being made,unfortunately.

If you see one - and it's moderately priced -

it could be a good buy.

As others have stated, Rippen pianos are made in The Neatherlands. Contrary to what some others have stated I consider them high quality, at least in regards to tone depth and quality.
I purchased a Rippen Carillon, new in 1985 and still have it. My decision was based on two factors, primarily. 1) I found the tone quality had depth and richness, in spite of the fact that is it such a small upright piano. It doesn't match a full size grand but does better than most uprights I have played on and even a few of the shorter grands. 2) I was impressed with the story of the company that the dealer related to me. It is a family run company and the then current president was not permitted to take over as president until he had worked at and had a clear understanding of every job in the company.

Rippen was one of the most innovative piano companies out there. Their designs and materials were way ahead of their time, and in fact, that is what got them into some trouble. They pushed the envelope just a little too hard in my opinion. The famous Alurip or Rippen Alugrand looked like the piano that Judy Jetson would have taken piano lessons on, if Judy Jetson was taking piano lessons. Do some research, it's quite a fascinating history.

Most Rippen uprights in the 80's/90's when they were in full swing were indeed medium budget, medium quality. Usually English Langer/Herrburger Brooks actions and reverse crown soundboards with the bottom of the soundboard floating (not fixed.) So the bass was quite impressive for a 110/112c, upright.
