Folks
Getting close to buying a good digital piano as I resume the lessons I dropped fifty years ago.
I am searching for a solid action, current/new technology and of course a good sound. Either from the piano itself, or secondary amplification/speakers. An upright is also a requirement. In the price range of $3750 to $4750.
I have done alot of research these past two months and it will be one of these two.
For any of you that have owned either of these, please chip in your two cents worth as to what you like, or dislike.
Thanks
Jon ...

I believe the Kawai CA-93 is also in your budget and is a fine instrument as well. Here is a complete thread all about the Kawai 63/93 and all of it's sound capabilities. https://www.pianoworld.com/forum/ubb...0for%20KAWAI%20CA93/CA6.html#Post1448603

The decision between Kawai and Roland completely is a matter of taste and personal preference. You will find advocates for either brand/model.
Personally, I prefer Kawai over Roland anytime (I like the touch much better), but this might be completely different for you. You will have to try them yourself to figure out whether your a Kawai or Roland person ;-).

Well, after playing the CA-63 in the store yesterday I ended up purchasing it. On my way out of the store, I sat at the CA-93 for a minute and played something simple and noticed a difference in the sound, due to the soundboard, of course. It definitely seemed more like a real piano sound. I am now having thoughts of changing my mind and springing for a few more dollars (probably 800 - 1000) and taking home the CA-93 instead.
Any comments on that thought ?

Either would be superb. These are essentially concert grand-like instruments for less than $5000. But to my way of thinking they are approaching overkill because you can get good, grand piano-like digitals for less than $1000. I use a Williams Overture that I bought sight-unseen online in 2009 for $600. This is one of the cheapest digitals but I find it adequate for any playing, from jazz to concertos.

Mr. text module is approaching again!
Thank you Gyro for this completely new, mindblowing statement out of your mouth!
I mean - isn't $600 too much? I would go for these roll-up pianos. Either of those would do, and I would buy it sight-unseen, that's utterly important, otherwise you could change your mind.
Don, the CA93 is definitely an improvement in sound quality IF you often play through loudspeakers. If you mostly use headphones there is no difference in sound quality (other than just some additional sounds the CA93 offers). It's quite a bit of additional money, it's even more additional money than Gyro paid for his DP...

Gyro, since you're always boasting about the Williams Overture, could you upload a video or audio recording of you playing it? There really isn't much about it online.

I assume I could improve the "speaker" sound by employing some external speakers ?
If so, would you have a recommendation ?

Forget the Williams Overture. The William Tell Overture is the business.

I say if you can afford it, go for it. There really is no down side to owning a better instrument.
