Good morning everyone! Sorry I've been scarce lately. Lots going on lately, and I need to get ready for my piano lesson today. Here's my musical offering. Here is Beats Antique. I just started listening to these artists whose music is described as "a definitive union between the old and new. The album, Tribal Derivations, is centered in Middle Eastern bellydance, down tempo hip hop, old school jazz, classical Indian and North African Gnawa music."

Here's one more from Beats Antique. It's set to a pretty cool animation video. Here is Tribal Derivation. I'm done! Enjoy the rest of your day!

Thanks to Rossy and Becca. Congrats and good luck for your job, Becca. Wish you will be back here very soon.

Beats Antique's works are quite unique. Very impressive fusion of different cultures. Thanks a lot Griffin for posting such an "antique".

I'm still drugged with Jackie's mesmerizing voice and her unbelievable talent. In this context, I'd like to show my great honor to another prodigal child pianist: George Li. Here are two of his amazing performances on two of world's most challenging piano pieces: Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody 2 and La Campanella.

Good posts Griffin, I have never heard of that outfit before, and will keep my eyes and ears open for more, good luck with your piano lesson griffin, I am sure it will go just fine.

Rupak, that little dude is cool, he is on the road to going very far indeed!!

Becca, I hope you have told your new employer that you also have commitments here!!

Anyways, here is cyril smith playing rachmaninov prelude,

Cyril Smith met rachmaninov on a number of occasions, and was of course D.helfgotts real life teacher at the RCM.

Rossy, I didn’t know Cyril Smith, but I see he was an impressive virtuoso. He plays very fast the Prelude in G minor, but his performance is expressive at the same time. I’ve loved this recording.

Griffin, that group is interesting. A lot of fusions!

Rupak, that child is so young! I can hardly understand how is possible to play so well at that age.

Wonderful playing!
I love the bit in the film where his character, played I think by John Guilgud, talks about meeting Rachmaninov.I seem to remember him saying that Rachmaninov said that his playing had touched his soul or something like that.Probably my favorite bit of the film.I wonder if it was true?

I've had this Les Mis 25th anniversary concert on repeat now for about a month, I just can't put it down. There are several outstanding performances including Norm Lewis as Javert.

Recaredo, cyril smith 1909-1974.
In 1934 He became professor of piano at the RCM. He married another well known pianist Phyllis sellick, they played together often doing duets.

Whilst on a concert tour of Russia,
Cyril suffered a stroke/thrombosis that lost him the use of his left arm/hand, but they still played "three hands" on the piano and composed pieces for three hands, and had pieces composed for them.
Malcolm arnold composed concerto for two pianos (three hands) opus 104 and dedicated it to them.

Cyril was regarded as a specialist on Rachmaninov, and according to Margeret Helfgotts book "out of tune"( sister to D.helfgott) rachmaninov had said of smith that he played the third concerto the best "of an englishman" before rach died in 1943.

Here is Cyril and Phyllis together....

And here playing the rach2.... I dont know if there is a recording of him playing the rach 3 anywhere....

It was Cyril smith and Phyllis sellick that drove D.helfgott home after he had played the rach3 recital at the RCM, Cyril was elated at Davids performance, allthough quite surprised at what david did when they got him home... he collected up all his washing and took it to the launderette.

Hi everyone! I'm just dropping by on my break. It looks like some great postings. I can hardly wait to get home and listen. Right now, however, my piano lesson will be coming up shortly and I need to get ready for that!

Hey Becca! Congratulations on the new job!! Way to go! Welcome Rupak! I'm really pleased to see your postings and am looking forward to more! I'm not sure I'll have time to post Friday. However, I'll be back this weekend. Recaredo, I'll have some more Postings of Leontyne Price on Sunday that I think you'll enjoy.

Off I go to piano lessons. I'll check in later!

Wow Rossy, thanks so much for your post. I’ll listen to those recordings carefully, especially the concert No 2. I see that is the whole concert, fantastic!

Timmy, are you referring to this film? I have to watch it.

Know what you mean. It seems quite old skool, low volume...almost steam driven. Watch as it slices the excess vinyl off around the edge.

Hi my friends!

I’m going to spend the weekend in other city, we have to attend to a wedding. The engaged couple is as old as we are, and this is their very first wedding. I don’t know whether we are still young people, or the love lasted to come too much for this couple.

Happy weekend to everybody!

Thank you very much, Rossy for introducing and sharing your extensive knowledge on Cyril Smith and Phyllis Sellick. I would have never known of this legendary pianists! You did an excellent job, Rossy. I really enjoyed your posts. The story of Cyril Smith is quite striking! Many great creations have emerged from accidents, just as Beethoven. It's just impossible to believe how one who can't hear anything can compose masterpieces which directly reach our soul!

Thank you timmy once again for your great post on Norm Lewis's elegant and energetic performance! I really like it.

I wanna deviate a little bit. Here are some excellent musics followed by unique animations by Animusic. There are a series of DVDs, but the following two are extraordinary.

He he Rupak, very good! (and welcome to RST)

It kinda reminds me of Steve Reich's stuff for percussion (which is 'animated' in quite a different sense).

Rupak, the second one really makes me think - visually - of a pirate ship!

Loved the Animated, Rupak, dont worry about deviating!! there is actually nothing to deviate from!! LOl
we just post what we think may be interesting, just the other day Eglantine posted a video of a record pressing machine in action, which was excellent... I mean how many folk have ever seen one of those.

The second video of the stringed resonance box, got me thinking: This should be meachanically possible in real life to make... it would need some thinking out, but just like a player piano , it should be do-able!! And would be amazing.

OOhhhh.... Announcement: "It will be Piano-joys desert island discs this coming Sunday!!"

This guy ( who slightly resembes brian blessed "Gordans alive!!")

Does utube videos explaining the intricate parts of the English language, and for the uninformed or confused folk., especially for whom English is not their first language, he does a good job usually.

You can see him explaining past participles and the like on his youtube videos...

But this is a cracker, here he is explaining "Bun fight"

I find this extremely funny, I cannot watch it without laughing...

AND, considering the amount of times folk get themselves into bun fights on different threads here and there on these forums, I thought the notion of just stepping in with "I sense buns"

As a statement at the onset of a "bunfight" might actually help stop the bunfight from happening, as if folk did throw buns after you said that, they would be proving you correct, and in my case for example, folk may not want to prove me correct by the throwing of buns...

Just an Idea.

"I sense buns" and this:
