Good morning everyone! Sorry I've been scarce lately. Lots going on lately, and I need to get ready for my piano lesson today. Here's my musical offering. Here is Beats Antique. I just started listening to these artists whose music is described as "a definitive union between the old and new. The album, Tribal Derivations, is centered in Middle Eastern bellydance, down tempo hip hop, old school jazz, classical Indian and North African Gnawa music."

Beats Antique's works are quite unique. Very impressive fusion of different cultures. Thanks a lot Griffin for posting such an "antique".

Cyril Smith met rachmaninov on a number of occasions, and was of course D.helfgotts real life teacher at the RCM.

Rossy, I didn’t know Cyril Smith, but I see he was an impressive virtuoso. He plays very fast the Prelude in G minor, but his performance is expressive at the same time. I’ve loved this recording.

Rupak, that child is so young! I can hardly understand how is possible to play so well at that age.

I love the bit in the film where his character, played I think by John Guilgud, talks about meeting Rachmaninov.I seem to remember him saying that Rachmaninov said that his playing had touched his soul or something like that.Probably my favorite bit of the film.I wonder if it was true?

I've had this Les Mis 25th anniversary concert on repeat now for about a month, I just can't put it down.There are several outstanding performances including Norm Lewis as Javert.

Recaredo, cyril smith 1909-1974.
In 1934 He became professor of piano at the RCM. He married another well known pianist Phyllis sellick, they played together often doing duets.

Whilst on a concert tour of Russia,
Cyril suffered a stroke/thrombosis that lost him the use of his left arm/hand, but they still played "three hands" on the piano and composed pieces for three hands, and had pieces composed for them.
Malcolm arnold composed concerto for two pianos (three hands) opus 104 and dedicated it to them.

Cyril was regarded as a specialist on Rachmaninov, and according to Margeret Helfgotts book "out of tune"( sister to D.helfgott) rachmaninov had said of smith that he played the third concerto the best "of an englishman" before rach died in 1943.

It was Cyril smith and Phyllis sellick that drove D.helfgott home after he had played the rach3 recital at the RCM, Cyril was elated at Davids performance, allthough quite surprised at what david did when they got him home... he collected up all his washing and took it to the launderette.

You did an excellent job, Rossy. I really enjoyed your posts. The story of Cyril Smith is quite striking! Many great creations have emerged from accidents, just as Beethoven. It's just impossible to believe how one who can't hear anything can compose masterpieces which directly reach our soul!

we just post what we think may be interesting, just the other day Eglantine posted a video of a record pressing machine in action, which was excellent... I mean how many folk have ever seen one of those.

The second video of the stringed resonance box, got me thinking: This should be meachanically possible in real life to make... it would need some thinking out, but just like a player piano , it should be do-able!! And would be amazing.

AND, considering the amount of times folk get themselves into bun fights on different threads here and there on these forums, I thought the notion of just stepping in with "I sense buns"

As a statement at the onset of a "bunfight" might actually help stop the bunfight from happening, as if folk did throw buns after you said that, they would be proving you correct, and in my case for example, folk may not want to prove me correct by the throwing of buns...
