Becca, you're not too far away from me and right now it's 37 degrees in Minneapolis!! We haven't had that much rain, but it's plenty hot here as well. Well, I just finished editing our publication at work, and soon it's off to the printer. yippie

Time to go home!

Yes Griff, we are all slowly being roasted. frown I have no idea how texans do it. This heat is horrendous (and I don't have air conditioning.) Congrats on getting your editing done! Soon it's supper time then practice time for me!

Hi everyone, i just finished a week of tech-detox. It wasn't self imposed - our brilliant tele-comm's co we have here messed up our new internet connection and well...(1st world problem really).
Coupled with the fact that I spent most of last week on site and not in the office, and i was reduced to iphone emails and very slow internet - oh and that damn auto-correct!!

It was a little hard for the first couple of days but then well you get used to not having google for everything - and forget Piano World...its hopelessly slow on a phone - i was able to listen to some of the postings though.

So Rossy, if there's a fee/tax/levy/charge for non-posting let me know and i will inform my Nigerian accountant to deposit a large amount into your account, where-by you can refund me the difference smile

Well, as you all know, and are excited about, we have now had 4 stages of the Piano Comp here in Sydney. I have caught some of the performances as broadcast on the old wireless. I also managed to catch one of the live sessions.

I must say, it's a very odd thing. I am not a demographer by any means but the majority of the audience were well over 60 (and this was an evening session). There were a few under 40's (like me) and only a handful of audience members who appeared to be in their 20's. The odd thing is that we are watching performers in their 20's. Where are their peers? Watching Gaga i suppose.

There have been some great performances where others on PW can write about better than I can (so i will spare you and let them).

What i would like to share is one of the commissioned works for the comp - Anne Boyd's Kabarli Meditation (Dawn). This is performed by Arta Arnicane (unfortunately didn't make it past the 4th stage). Sorry it's a link - they are streaming all of the performances online. If you can be bothered....the piece starts at 17min (after the Haydn Sonata).

http://www.abc.net.au/cgi-bin/commo...spa-2-2012-07-10.asx&t=SIPCA&p=1

So all this piano talk....sometimes reminds me of a Nick Cave song.
"My typewriter had turned mute as a tomb,
And my piano crouched in the corner of my room with all its teeth bared"

I'm glad you enjoyed it Farm Girl. Angelique Kidjo does have an amazing voice. I had the pleasure of attending one of her concerts in St. Paul a few years ago. Amazing energy!

It sounds like a miserable heat wave in New York. We are getting a one-day reprieve here. However, we'll be roasting again tomorrow and through the weekend! Anyway, I've been listening to some music by Phoebe Snow (R.I.P.) Here is a favorite, "Poetry Man"

Lost in cyberspace.in the UK.
I am going to do something that I dont normally do, i am going to speak for me AnD Wayne ( at least maybe more in the UK)

Here it is: "Giveover allready about heatwaves and sun" It is not funny in the UK it has like wayne allready said been raining in the UK EVERY day since april.

NOT every other day or mainly, or quite a lot old chaps, but persistantly and every day since april.

This can give one ( like me or wayne) "cabin fever" ( google it or read about great explorers) anyways we do want a holiday in the sun.

we just want sun, any sun, mostly accompanied by the absence of the two part harmony rain. Just a dry day with a picture of the sun drawn on a piece of scrap paper will do for now.

And Metamorphosis 4 is really hard for me at least it is right on the edge of what I can nearly do, nearly sometimes, at the most if it doesnt get any harder at all with loads of working at it.....

I dont know if it is actually hard or if its me cabin fevered by the rain....

anyways you decide if this piece seems hard and let me know please.. this is what it is meant to sound like played by someone properly.... probably in a country where the sun shines in summer I guess.

Anyways here is phillip glass..............

I'd not looked at Metamorphosis 4 yet, still working on M2, but you are right, it's definately the hardest out of the five. Gonna take some hard work. One and five are pretty easy, and I'm getting there with M2. M3 doesn't seem too hard, will see when I get there smile

Finally had some sunshine here in Yorkshire.........Yippeeeee smile

Here's a taste of what I've been enjoying lately (and thinking of the same old song!).

Very rainy here.. too bad we can't send it a little bit north to the midwest!

It made me think of the Violent Femmes..

and it made me want more Femmes!
Such a good cover..

I need to buy these on CD or something.. I always forget what's on the albums!

Here it’s extremely hot. We can only see raining in our dreams, but this is usual in July.

Hi everyone! It's cooling off here, yet it's very humid and raining. Aimee, perhaps you got your wish. I'm not complaining, however. It had been getting dry here, and our garden needs the rain.

Recaredo, loved the Cumbia! Here's some more from Los Lobos. Enjoy!

Hi, all!
Please define “hot”.
We’re at 90 degrees F (approx 32 C ), 90% humidity, full sun today. Am I complaining? No siree Bob (or whoever is reading), nope, it’s lovely sweating after retrieving one’s mail a mere 20 steps from the house. smile

Glad your garden's getting rain, Griffin! Mine is lush and green. I keep thinking about those farmers and that drought they're dealing with. They can have some of our rain. One part of New Orleans got 10 inches yesterday! Of course, the roads all flooded.
The humidity does make a horrible difference, PJ. New Orleans has it too(grew up in Tampa, and it's the same as there). Even at 2am, you can walk outside and feel like you're walking into a steam bath at times. In the winter, it makes everything that horrible damp cold. Still won't trade humidity for snow, though!

Griffin, glad you enjoyed the Cumbia!

PJ, here we are at 104 ºF (40 ºC)and 20% humidity, the weather is really hot and dry.

Aimee is right, it would be rather worse with high humidity.

Hello all, hope you are all well. smile

Weather here in the UK has returned to its "usual weather" for this time of year (so I've heard).

Talking of gardening, the grass and hedges have grown at an acelerated pace, I can hardly keep up lol, and the increase of slugs and snails have said goodbye to my growing efforts, theyv'e eaten everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm still experiencing Metamorphosis fixation syndrome,I wonder if Rossy is? wink

Rossy/Dipsy
I'm strugling with M4, bar 12, bass cleff, I just cant reach those notes, I'm wondering if raising the lower F up an octave would spoil the peice? or would no one notice?

Also struggling with bar 32, don'y know why, but I'm finding this more difficuilt than bar 56 of M2.

M2, Bar 37, the inversion of the F major arpegigo int right comfy, not sure what fingers I should be using. any ideas lol?

How you two getting on?

At this rate, Ill be playing the Metamorphosis easybit mashup Rossy suggested lol
smile

Ahhh...finally I could come back to RST! And I'm so happy to see RST coming back to its full glory with wayne33yrs, Aimeeo and all of the Rostoskians! Rossy's deep sorrow and anxiety for wayne made me anxious for him too, though I joined RST quite lately. I always felt that RST was missing someone very special smile Anyway, it's quite happy and HOT time here (though in India its rainy season now smile ). Apart from music I wanna share some cool raindrops that I could capture with my new point & shoot camera:
[Linked Image]

I should've come back with ICM. But, since it's Sunday it's better to post this magnificent piece:

Greetings everyone! Nice music postings everyone. We've had company and I didn't have much time to prepare my postings. I think these few should be enjoyable, however.

Rupak, how wonderful to hear from you. You've been missed. I assumed that you've been very busy. I enjoyed your posting.

My first selection today is "Oboe Concerto No.3 in G minor" by Georg Friedrich Handel. This four-part piece is performed by the Pro Musica Orchestra under the direction of Klaus Bergedorf.
