Can't find any info on it. I've been playing the RD-700NX and if I'm 100% objective, I'd have to say they cheaped out and abandoned grading. I can sorta trick my brian into thinking it's there, but then my brain quickly tells me "no it isn't." I mean, I hate to think they'd go to the trouble of mimicking escapement, putting wood veneers on the keys, and making fake ivory and ebony key tops only to neglect to grade the damn thing.

Anyone know for sure?

And please no grand-piano-action-wouldn't-be-graded-if-the-designers-could-help-it type answers. wink

PHA stands for Progressive Hammer Action. Progressive is Roland's term for having the action change from heavier to lighter as you go from Bass to Treble on the keyboard. If that's what you mean by "graded" then that would be a yes. The PHA III is a very high performing action overall. I can do things on it that normally are impossible on digitals. It's a very good action, in my opinion.

EDIT: OK, I found a Roland brochure that includes a detailed description of the PHA III, and they claim it's graded. Damn sure hard to tell though! smirk

I am certain that the PHA III is still graded. I think you might be expecting the difference from low to high to be very pronounced, but it's actually quite subtle.

If the PHA III is the same for all Roland's DPs that have it, then it's definitely graded, as on my V-Piano. But as has already been mentioned, it's quite subtle and not noticeable most of the time, and less obvious than on most grands. In fact, amoung acoustic grands, I do find that the cheaper ones tend to have the greater discrepancy in key weights between the low and high notes than the more expensive (and larger) grands.
