Urgent Request: Amazing Grace arrangement #1692133

The "urgent" behind this request refers to the fact that I need to find a good arrangement of this song by tomorrow at the latest, as I'll be heading to a funeral shortly after that.

My mother's cousin (more like a very close aunt to all of us), just before she died, asked that "Amazing Grace" be sung at her service, and there's a chance, since I'm known to be a pianist, that the family might ask me to play it, so I need all the help I can get to prepare, just in case!

What I'm looking for is either an intermediate to advanced arrangement, or a lead sheet with interesting harmonies (avoiding the dullness of just I, IV, and V chords). I hope that helps convey what I mean by a "good" arrangement.

Oh, and preferably free sheet music, if possible, though I may be willing to buy if it's very interesting and available for digital download (because of the time crunch).

Thanks very much!

There's a nice on here:
http://waltercosand.com/CosandScores/Composers%20E-K/Edwards,%20Bill/Traditional%2520-%2520Amazing%2520Grace%2520%2528arr.%2520Bill%2520Edwards%2529.pdf

Since this version is essentially a series of variations, you could just choose one or two.

Here's one that you might could use. I changes keys a couple of times but you could just repeat the first verse as needed.

It's my artrangement and you can print it free of charge.

Btw there is a mp3 you can listen to.

Thanks, pianoloverus and Studio Joe!

Your suggestions are just what I'm looking for. The variations in both of them make them interesting, as do the harmonies.

Now to go and learn them quickly...

This isn't much of what you're looking for, but if you ever need a choir to sing Amazing Grace, this is my favorite arrangement:

I can say that Studio Joe's arrangement has been a hit with me ever since I first heard it and learned it for an ABF recital - I play it at my senior center gigs and they love it. It's really fine.

If you're ever in need of an arrangement for voice and piano, then Mark Hayes' arrangement is gorgeous. He has it available in several different keys to accomodate soprano or tenor/baritone voices.

Orange Soda King: I've never heard an arrangement like that before--quite different.

jotour: After trying out his arrangement, I really agree.

sarah elizabeth: Thanks so much for the tip. I'll be looking into that.

This is the best arrangement of Amazing Grace I've ever heard. It's a midi so it could be loaded into a notation program to get a score.

Very nice - had kind of a haunting, or nostalgic feel to it.

Well, if we're pointing to just any old version - I kind of like the back-porch quality of this one. Note the use of "Chopin rubato", where the melodic line is only loosely aligned with the regular pulse of the accompaniment.

There's nothing wrong with playing something simply - simple chords, no substitutions, no modulations. In the setting you've mentioned, simple might be even more powerful.

Wow, so many suggestions, so little time. But there's a bit of irony to report--after all this work to find something more "interesting," my mother echoed what was said above: keep it simple and singable. So that's what I'll be going for, but I really appreciate all the ideas, especially for future use.
