Hi, I'm considering buying a Yamaha MX 95, built around 1991. I can't find any references to this model at all, but the dealer says it is identical to a U1 except with a (now disfunctional) disklavier system - so he's basically selling it as a U1. It sounds fine to me, but would be grateful on any information on this model, and whether it really is the same as a U1.

Also, is there much hope of restoring a 20yr old disklavier system to working order? This isn't my reason for wanting this piano, but would be interested to know.

Thanks

The MX95 is not the same as a U1 in comparing the structural "piano" not refering to the lack of the disklavier controller etc. The piano(MX95)is 48" like a U1 but is not the same as for

thinner arms
less backposts
1 piece lid
not as heavy as a U1
different hammers
doesn't sound as good as a U1

Still a fine piano. As for gray market imports, they are comparable to the U10BL which somewhat replaced the U1 as a 48" uprt. They were manufactured in Japan in the late eighties thru the nineties. The newer U10A was closer to a U1 as for build and sound.

If you find another MX95 controller(PC100)you could probably get that disklavier working. It is usally the controller that is disfunctional that needs to fixed or replaced.
