While in a piano store killing some time I was trying out different acoustics and digital. (Oddly enough the acoustic keys felt very light compared to the digital.) Maybe it's just ive always played on an old upright with heavy.)

Anyway to the point, I saw something Ive never seen before. Someone took the cheap plastic keys of a keyboard (and im not talking a p95 cheap or a Casio, im talking 50 dollar target keyboard cheap, and slapped em on a kawai acoustic upright.

lol scarred the heck outa me when this booming sound came out when I touched the lower section softly.

Do people do this now to cut down on that annoying sticky key problem of acoustics now? Ive never seen such a thing until today.

Are you sure about this? I really doubt it. The keys of an acoustic piano are wood with plastic top. The keys of a cheap keyboard are solid moulded keys ie. no top layer. I don't think they would be identical dimensions. It wouldn't fix a sticky key problem either. I think somebody's playing a joke on you or something.

a: there is no way of mounting plastic keys from any electronic keyboard on the front & balance pins, nor to get them to operate the action.
b: even if someone did manage, by some miracle, to overcome a:, it would not affect the sound of the piano.

I suspect that either the piano had a silent system and you were listening to the electronic piano voice or someone threw out the action, complete with the keys and key frame, and shoe-horned a digital piano into the resulting space.

I'm imagining that someone took the guts of a cheap keyboard and put it in an acoustic upright piano, perhaps mounting the speakers on the soundboard.
