Just moved I think a KB1 model 350?
Anyone know the date?
Serial # 98851

The pedal travels up and down...but the dampers never come down far enough to touch the strings.

It was like this B4 I had it professionally moved.

Any ideas on how to fix it? I've read its a simple adjustment.
Something about a possible KB shift?

Any advice would be greatly aprreciated as I'm raring to play...

Thanks so much everyone...

Hi, and welcome to the Piano World Forums…

You might get better answers on the technician’s forum.

But, fwiw, it sounds like the metal rod that connects the sustain pedal to the actual sustain leaver/mechanism is misadjusted. There is a threaded bolt and lock-nut at the upper end of the rod that can be adjusted. The sustain pedal should have about a ¼ inch of free-play before the dampers start lifting. Of course, this can vary and can be adjusted to suit the pianist.

Hope this helps.

Rick

Spend a minute under the piano and give the pedal and the connecting rod a good look. No software needed, no pdf files ... just give it a look with your own eyes and see if you can figure this out. Trust me, it's not very difficult.

If you feel comfortable pulling the action out, you will probably see that the little dowel that lifts the damper tray has slipped out of place and is now holding the damper tray up. Don't break a hammer pulling the action out.

If it was just moved, it is most likely very easy to fix.

There is a wood dowel connecting the pedal lever (under the piano) with the damper system (inside the piano). This wood dowel fits into a depression in the wood, and has a pin on top which fits into the damper tray up in the piano. During the move the dowel came out of position, so it is holding the dampers up in the air. If you lay under the piano with a light, you should be able to see that the dowel is not aligned with the lever properly. scootch it into it's hole in the lever, and all should be well.

If it's out of the tray at the top, then it's a little harder to fix. You can't just slide it back into place, but have to lower the lever and remove the dowel.

Your piano tuner can fix it very easily, so maybe just getting it tuned will be the answer.

Yea, what Don said.

Had the same thing happen about a month ago on a grand rented for a party in downtown Detroit. 90 minutes before the party was to begin, the artist said the dampers were not working, I drove from A2 to downtown (40 miles) and it took about 8 minutes to figure it out and fix...

btw, Don, your service department is tops...pass the word thumb
