I am thinking about purchasing an old Roland A 90 "Expandable Controller" stage piano from my piano teacher. I was wondering when this model was produced and how much I should be paying for it.
It's in excellent condition and it's just what I am needing.
How much is it worth and is there something better for the money????

Thanks,
Justin

Hi,

the A90 is an amazing controller, they don't make it like this anymore. I used it a lot from 1996 to 2001, it was my main stage midi controller and it was a breeze to work with, very reliable, good keyboard, overall a great quality product. When you really need a monster midi master contoller (up to 4 midi devices), then this one is the best you can get, maybe the Roland A80 would be an option, but I'm not sure, since I didn't own it.

But it's a pretty old machine, so I wouldn't pay more than 500-600 Euros for an used one.

Good luck!

Just one more thing.

If it's the A90 EX, then it's expanded and it comes with the VE-RD Piano card, whioch features a lot of AP & EPs. The sound is, well, dated, to say the least. I wouldn't buy the A90EX as a stage piano and for it's sound, there are a lot better sounding stage pianos available. Again, I would buy the A90 if I really needed the perfect midi controller on stage.

Excellent keyboard - it has the old Roland PA-4 hammer action. One of the best looking Rolands too - much sexier than the contemporary RD-600. But the reality is that it will break down one day and fixing it may be difficult. Electronics fail eventually so don't pay too much! I think the 500 Euro advice is good.

Good luck,

Steve
