What exactly does the "V" stand for, in the Roland V-Piano?

Roland refers to "Vintage" and "Vanguard" as being two kinds of pianos that they model their sounds after. I don't see anything on the Roland website that indicates what the "V" is...

It's a series from Roland Here s a quote from Roland's web site. It might have meant "Virtual" but now it is a line of related products that all use the same kind of modeling technology. From Roland's web site...

Quote
no family of Roland instruments has won more respect and acclaim than the revolutionary “V” series: V-Accordion, V-Bass, V-Drums, V-Guitar, V-Synth, etc. Today, Roland proudly announces the next chapter in the V legacy … the V-Piano.

I think Roland uses "V" now to mean "Our top line modeling tech."

I keep (mis)referring to my V-Piano as 'V-Power' because Shell calls its high-octane fuel V-Power grin. And to me the V-Piano is high octane in its ability to imitate a real acoustic grand, with seemingly no limits to its power (despite my well-developed muscles cool, I've yet to reach its maximum in fff...).

Hi bennevis,

Sounds like the kind of piano I would definitely want to buy, as soon as I can save up the hefty sum of green ($6K, I believe) to get it. There is nothing wrong with having a really nice Steinway "D" at your command, am I right?

Almost forgot to add that I e-mailed Roland support, and they did in fact confirm that the "V" in V-Piano stands for "virtual."

The "V" is Roland's incarnation of the Latin-Italian translation of the word "Volare" which means "to fly".

Thanks to everyone for the replies, although there is still the question of the V-Piano being economically "viable" (there's another "v," by the way), as it is still quite an expensive buy at six (6) grand.

Will take about 2 years (i.e., 24 months) of saving back $250 every month in order to get it, with my current income. Might be able to stretch that to about $300.

Anyone else trying to do the same?

Whoa; you've got it backwards. Most Americans would buy it now and pay about $100 a month for around thirty years or so afterwards.

What is this 'save up before you buy' craziness you speak of?

I am not so sure that you can buy this V-Piano (from the online sites) at any special monthly plan or rates (like Rent-a-Center, for example), and I just don't have the money to buy one outright.

That is what I mean by saving my pennies (month to month) until I have got enough to get it. Actually, saving back $250 every month (aside from all other expenses) is quite a bit of cash for me, as it is.

Could you save back $250 every month with consistent diligence, until you have $6,000 at hand? There are those who do not know the true meaning of savings, or, couldn't hold onto it long enough to reach a specific goal.

Is that clear to you now? Or, do I have to spell out the word...

S-A-V-I-N-G-S

EXTRA NOTE:

Let me know as to exactly which online store is going to sell you the V-Piano for less than $5,995 (which you won't find), and, allow you to purchase it on some sort of monthly plan, as I would buy one as of right NOW.

Most walk-in piano stores are going to be selling the V-Piano for at least $6,800 or higher, except for a few online sites at the above mentioned price. Don't think that your buy-it-now option is even possible.

Just get an FP-7F. Same or almost identical action, much cheaper, and it sounds better too. :P

Hi Greg,

I have considered the Roland FP-7F, and, even as good as it may be (as I agree with you on that), it still has sampled sounds, whereas the V-Piano does not.

Also, the FP-7F does not have the longer and more natural sounding decay of the acoustic-like piano sounds, making a big difference in the overall authenticity.

Actually, all other sampled digitals will always contain some sort of looping that you can clearly hear, in the decaying piano sounds.

The V-Piano is far closer to an acoustic, in every detail.
