You posted this several times before, and never answered the good questions that were raised about it -- including that we couldn't tell how legitimate this is. It would give a better appearance if you addressed such questions, or at least followed up in some way rather than just repeatedly posting this announcement on multiple forums of the site.

I met Natalia, the person starting this competition, while in Paris. While her English probably isn't fluent enough to understand and/or reply to posts others have asked questions of, I believe her competition to be legitimate. Anyway the Paris competition's age limit was 18 and they still had a lot of quality (older) candidates show up and make it through.

Since I've never had any experience organizing or hosting competitions I'm guessing the first one's always the hardest to get off the ground. I would love to attend but it's too soon and I want a change of repertoire.

Good luck, Natalia.

While I recall having read the initial announcement in January of this competition, it does seem terribly late to be soliciting participants, given all the arrangements that would have to be made to enable one to participate.

Regards,

Like Gorden, I also met Natalia in Paris (for the second time already). She is investing a lot of hard work into founding this new competition. I personally welcome every new amateur competition out there, especially if it gives an opportunity to travel to beautiful cities like St. Petersburg. A friend of mine living almost next doors to me will attend this year and I hope many more people will attend as well.

Hello Gorden! Glad to see you here!
Actually I thought there were rather some comments.
Anyway I would be glad to answer the questions as well!
About the age, we think it would be nice for young people who studied piano at the music schools(an additional education for children in Russia)not to stop it after the graduating when they choose another profession! If you just stop it once, it is too hard to start playing again.
Good luck in your new repertoire, hope to hear it!

Natalia.

Natalia -- thanks for replying! I do think that it helps, and it also helps that two of our members met you at the Paris competition. Previously the moderator felt that your posts were inappropriate advertising, but now it might be seen differently. (I certainly see it differently, for what that's worth.)

Thank you too! Really there could be some questions for discussion, for example people in Russia had lots of questions about the competition, as it is new here, and often they just suppose that "Amateur" means "someone who can play by two fingers"!

I think that's pretty close to what people in Poland thought of piano amateurs too.

Actually, anybody who can play with just two fingers is a pro. Amateurs are people who can't play for nuts with all 10 fingers.

Current:
Beethoven: Sonata Op.31, No.2 ("Tempest")
Debussy: Danseuses de Delphes (Prelude 1, Book 1)
Next in line:
Chopin: Ballade No. 1 in G minor, Op.23
Debussy: Le vent dans la plaine (Prelude 3, Book 1)
Debussy: Les sons et les parfums tournent dans l'air du soir (Prelude 4, Book 1)

Natalia, Judy and I will be in St Petersburg a couple of days, as part of a Celebrity Cruise -- I believe it's in mid to late May. Is it possible that we could meet? I've been involved in Amateur Competitions for many years in the US, and I would just be curious what you are looking to accomplish in the St Petersburg area.

I check on exact dates, if you're interested. For myself, I've never been to Estonia or Russia, and so am really looking forward to it!
