Hello,

My NP88 shipped yesterday from Thomann.de without a power cable in the box, no USB cable, no DVD-ROM and no User Manual. Good thing they put the Pedal in there.

So anyways, I find a power cable (since they're all universal) and plugged it in. Absolutely LOVED the piano. The keys feel excellent (I'm a pianist not a keyboardist), the dynamic range is amazing and the sounds are top notch.

After 10-15 minutes of playing and fiddling with the sounds and the Nord Sound Manager, an E flat key, right above middle C broke down. It wouldn't come back up and it was dead for sound. I could not believe what I saw: A 2,000 euro instrument broke in 15 minutes of playing.

An instrument that was made for gigging and "on the road" life and all that jazz. My previous keyboard was this 6 year-old Casio Privia PX-100 and even though people do say I've got a heavy touch on my hands, I did not manage to break any of its (crappy plastic) keys in all that time.

So I'm thinking factory faulty key. I sent the piano back to Thomann for a replacement but my whole plans are now pretty much ruined. The moment I spent my money and got the delivery date, of course, I started making plans...

Now it's going to take pretty much two weeks to get a new NP88.

Problem is if this second NP88 is going to break or something I'm going to lose it. If I can't have the NP88 there's no other electronic stage piano that appeals me right now.

Has anyone had problems with their keyboards or anything like that with missing cables in the box or any other issues with their instruments? This is the first time I'm buying from Thomann and it's not giving me a good first impression...

Cheers!

Hi, you need to get this up on the keyboard/synth forum. Sorry you've had a bad experience. I own a Nord Piano and love it. No issues at all, nothing missing in the box and nothing has broken yet and I sometimes play quite hard.

Thanks for replying. I apologize for posting in the wrong section, perhaps a mod can move it.

I'm glad to hear that the NP88 is holding up alright for heavy playing. I'd hate to have the broken key in my mind every time I sit down to play a gig on that instrument - which will be my only instrument when it ships back.

I loved the whole 15 minutes or so of the piano. It sounds great and the action suits me great.

Did you buy yours from a UK store or had it shipped, if you don't mind me asking?

Cheers!

UK seller - Digital Village. They shipped it to me, there was no one within 100 miles with a Nord for me to try at the time. Nord has a reputation as a professional's instrument so I think you were just very unlucky. Their keys are made by Fatar in Italy. Not the best key action but very useable. Also supplied to Kurzweil, another company with a strong pro customer base.

Good luck

Steve

I've only heard good things about Clavia and I got the chance to play the Classic Stage 88 in New York at a SamAsh store.

I remember liking it a lot and that's why I went for the NP88. I play on some Rolands and Korgs at the job and I didn't like them at all...

I'm aware that I'll have to adjust to the NP88's keys a bit, especially coming from playing Yamaha baby grands, but for the 15 minutes I got to play on it I liked it.

Here's hoping the new keyboard they send me will be fine!

Cheers!

Are these Nord keys heavier than the yammy CP5? I'm shopping at this range and i have a very light touch, I prefer lighter keys.

I'd say they're similar but different. :-) Not heavier though.
