What is your primary instrument(s) that you yourself perform on?
For me it is piano. My love is composing so if I'm focused on writing music, I don't practice enough. I should learn voice sometime as I like writing for voice.

Primary instrument is piano followed by voice and clarinet.
Classical and jazz pianist, singer, songwriter, and avid listener and concert-goer. SCHIMMEL and BLUTHNER fan and avidly AGAINST the dumbing down of quality music.

Piano followed by trumpet. I've experience with the entire brass section (except Tuba...mouthpiece was too big ), and I've played most of the mallets (every once in a while, there weren't enough percussionists in my high school band to cover the parts, or someone would get sick...and I was one of the few who could read the music ). I tried playing clarinet...not too good. My sister, however, was pretty good at it. I tried flute. I can whistle better. :p Sax never really worked for me (see clarinet). I never got the chance to try a double-reeded instrument. Ooh...tried a violin once. That's quite a difficult instrument, I must say. But yeah, pretty much piano and trumpet.
Every day we are afforded a new chance. The problem with life is not that you run out of chances. In the end, what you run out of are days.

I play the piano profesionally, and can play the guitar only little (my bro is a classical guitar student). On the other hand, my dad can play everything he gets his hands on: - Finished classical trombone school, - piano and keyboards - violin, viola, cello, contrabass - Trumpet, Bassoon, etc.

Right now piano and organ and soon the violin
Once during a concert at Carnegie Hall, the violinist Rachmaninoff was playing with lost his place in the music and whispered to Rachmaninoff, "Where are we?" Rachmaninoff replied, in all seriousness, "Carnegie Hall".

Piano (obviously since this is PW). A little guitar (chords and stuff), nothing too serious. Any kind of percussion in any kind of totally amateruish way! And the computer...

Piano, guitar, (used to be a mean lap steel player), oboe and clarinet, once upon a time, plus a little mandolin.

Piano and organ. I started on piano (obviously), but lately the organ has taken over as my main instrument. I guess it has to do with my fascination with timbral ideas to which the organ lends more easily than the piano. But I wouldn't want to be without any of them.
I have an ice cream. I cannot mail it, for it will melt.

Piano is the only thing I am advanced at. I have taken organ for a few years, though, and had a few jobs playing it. My goal in life is to be able to play every instrument, so I took a percussion class last semester, and am taking brass this semester. So now I can play drums, marimba and other mallets, and trumpet. I also have a guitar that I fiddle around with and can play some chords on.

So has anyone taken up new instruments in the five years since this thread originally appeared? I'm singing in a community choir, something I wasn't doing back then.

I play Bb clarinet as my primary instrument, but I'm currently learning how to play piano and with piano, some music theory. I've had experience playing Tenor Sax and Bass Clarinet for various other productions for Pit orchestra. Most of my composing is done whenever I poke around on the piano or when an idea pops into my head.
I just joined so I'd like to say hi and I'm glad to find a forum for composers to talk to each other!
