Option 1 - Ritmuller UH 132 R (52" inches) - for $5,200 or

Option 2 - Kawai K3 for $5k

or should i go for a Ritmuller UH118R (46.5 inches) for $4500.

is the price good for the piano? i am in NYC. it is for my daughter(beginner), also which one has better resale value.

Thank you everyone.

Hi, Happytime. Welcome.

There's not a bad choice in your list. The K-3 is always a good choice. It's a solid piano with an excellent action and a great reputation. The tone is your preference, but i like Kawais. I own one.

The new Ritmullers (UH series) get great reviews. Pianobuyer.com now rates them as "upper level consumer grade" pianos. DISCLAIMER: I haven't seen the Ritmullers personally. I'm repeating what others have written here.

Pricewise, the Ritmuller UH-118R is a good deal. The other two are great deals.

Larger pianos (like the Rit 131) will normally sound better, especially in the bass, although there's nothing at all wrong with the K-3. My Kawai is 46.5" and I think it sounds pretty good, although the larger pianos do sound better. The K-8 is awesome!

I guess it all boils down to your and your daughter's personal preference and your budget. Be sure to give her some input. It's her piano, after all.

Let us know what you decide.

Charles

PS: Now that I've reread my post, I've convinced myself that, unless budget is a big issue, I'd probably skip the smaller Ritmuller. Big pianos are just so much nicer. CT

Agree with Charles. I'd pick option one or option two, but not option three. The price differential for the UH118R is not sufficient to justify the step-down in size, IMO.

Obviously, I really love the Ritmuller grands. I liked the Ritmuller uprights I tried, too, but didn't find them to be as compelling as the grands. However, I loved the Kawai K3. It was my favorite upright, which surprised me.

FWIW, I think 5k is an excellent price on the K3. $5300 is a good, but not as great, price on the UH132R.

Resale value is a harder question. The common answer would be that the Kawai will have better resale value, and I think this is probably true. However, if Ritmuller gains more acceptance and popularity, then you could see their value rise such that it could end up with a better resale value. However, that would be a purely speculative play. Regardless, the differential in resale should probably not be a huge issue at this price point.

Personally, I'd probably buy the K3 (the size of the Rit might persuade me otherwise if I played with it enough), but it really comes down to which one has tone and touch that appeal more to you. Between the two, decide which you like more. Both are very good choices, IMO.

Good luck,
Mike

Thank you ChasT & Mike, How about K5 which is $2500 more than the K3, is it a fair price?

The K-5 is a really nice piano, it would be my choice, but what matters is your opinion.

As others have pointed out, all the pianos on your list are winners. The ultimate decision will be which of those you like the best. Which has the tone and touch you like best. Play each one several times over a period of several days or even weeks.

Just remember that by choosing from that list, you can't get burned.

$7500 for a K5 is also a very good price. Not quite as good, IMO, as $5000 for the K3, but still a very good price.

I did not play the K5, so I cannot really comment on it versus the other pianos you're looking at. I expect it would be very nice.

The K3 just wowed me when I played it. The K5 might do the same. But for some reason, I expect the K5 and the taller Rit to be a closer call than the K3 vs the Rit. That doesn't make sense, but I guess it just goes to show how much I liked the K3.

Oddly, I might end up picking the Rit over the K5, but taking the K3 over the Rit. You really just have to play them all to figure it out, though.

Is $2500 more for the K5 fair? Yes. The question is whether the K5 is worth $2500 more to you than the K3 and $2300 more to you than the Rit.

Sorry; wish I had a more helpful answer.
