Thanks to everyone for your help and assistance. I ended up buying a 2003 K&C KCG-600 from a private seller. I took a great piano tech with me, who basically took the piano apart. Said it was in beautiful condition, though needed regulation, tuning and voicing, but that it was a very nice instrument for the price - $5K. I don't play yet, and will start lessons, so I think this is the perfect piano to start with. I am SOOO excited!! This is something I have dreamed of all my life, and now I finally get to do it. Now while I will still follow these posts with interest, I will also start participating on the Adult Beginner forum. WOOOO HOOOOOO!!! You guys (and gals) are the greatest!

It's actually great sharing in the excitement of a new piano buyer here. We've all been there, and we know what it's like, so we get a bit excited as well. That's why we always want to see the pics. Congratulations. Owning a piano is a great thing.

A gutsy move to buy a piano BEFORE taking lesson! Commendable. I am renting a piano for the first six months of my piano life. Reading these posts has been enlightening a confusing. But, I am cruising the market. I may just settle for this rental unit and be done with it. It's a 1948 Acrosonic console. With ivory keys, and and nice sound no less. But, the shop might be asking too much for it. Thus, my quandary.

Mamma mia, you bought a grand piano before your first lesson?!!! Wow - that's determination!
I'm excited for you - your enthusiasm is leaping off the screen.
I look forward to seeing you over in the ABF forums and hearing about your progress.

With piano playing is just like finding a partener for life. Before you get into marriage you should have a period of friendship...You got into marriage blinfolded by passion! Risky, very risky... But, good luck and hope it will be for life because other wise it will be costly, just like a divorce;) Hope you enjoy piano playing for a long time!
