I have a brand new Kurzweil Mark Pro 3i (THREE I) which has two pedals (sostenuto, and sustain) that have some unwanted side-to-side play in them, with the sustain pedal being most noticeable. It becomes more evident when checking this by hand, instead of using a foot.

Also, the sustain pedal is developing a minor squeak as well, and the only pedal that is firm (without play) is the left soft pedal. None of the pedals should have any sideways motion in them, since this is a new piano.

So, I need to address the sideways play of two pedals, and take away a squeaking sound on the sustain pedal.

Question:

Should I call for a repair person to make the adjustments, or, is this something that I could do myself?

The piano is somewhat heavy being console style, although I could tip it over onto its backside to get at the pedal assembly.

Any suggestions?

Since digitals like this come disassembled for ease of shipping, and you put them together, there can be minor problems with fit and finish, like this. I suggest shimming near the pedal assembly, that is, stick something under the board that the pedals are attached to so that there is no longer any play when you press the pedals.
