I was first alerted in this forum a couple years ago that this was availalable and made the purchase & set it aside until just recently. I'm very happy with it and hope he publishes more transcriptions in the future, but dang it, there seem to be some errors on the 3rd page of "Thanksgiving". I've heard this solo often enough to be able to make the corrections myself using white-out & ink. It just seems to me to be such an obvious error that someone should have caught it. Do editors/transcribers/publishers (or whoever is responsible) do this deliberately just to frustrate us?? mad cursing

I've got the book but haven't tackled "Thanksgiving" yet. That's too bad that the transcription isn't accurate. I think one of the reasons he resisted making sheet music available for such a long time is that he said he plays the pieces himself differently each time and never felt there was just one "correct" version. What he may not realize is that his legion of fans will listen to the recordings a gazillion times and judge any deviation from the recording as a mistake.

I do! I had a lot of fun playing the songs from the December album last Christmas, particularly the Carol of the Bells. It was lots of fun, but right now, I'm more enamored by Yiruma smile I'll save GW for next Christmas again!

I haven't tried Thanksgiving.

Yes, I've heard that too. I'm pretty sure the mistakes I found on the 3rd page of "Thanksgiving" is not just another variation. If he played it that was in public the audience would gasp in horror. shocked

IMO it's just too careless of an error. Seems there should be corrections available somewhere?

Monica, I've heard most of your recital submissions, Thanksgiving is something you would be able to sight read fairly easily (no kidding!).

Flattery will get you everywhere, Jeff. 3hearts

In fact, I was so inspired by your confidence in me that I took out my Winston book and sat down to breeze through "Thanksgiving." Ha! help

I need to sit down and follow along with the sheet music while listening to the recording, because there were places as early as the first two lines where my feeble efforts sounded nothing like I remembered the piece. I didn't even make it to page 3.

Have the book, haven't played Thanksgiving, but I'll have to check it out some time soonish-- like next Thanksgiving!

I wonder if that means that GW didn't do any final play throughs using the music before the score was sent to the publishers. Hmmm, interesting to think about. I can imagine it being difficult for him to force himself to play what's on the score instead of what's in his head!

Yeah, Monica can play David Nevue better than David Nevue.... I'm sure she could play better than George Winston no sweat. Playing exactly like Winston is probably not that easy. He's got stresses and accents for all his phrases in the most unexpected beats in his measures. It kind of messes with your mind.

Maybe that's what GW means when he says he ofter performs these piano solos differently. I would wager he probably remains fairly consistent with his notation.

Monica, funny because "Thanksgiving" sounds to me like something you would really enjoy. Keep trying, you'll find it is very easy compared to some of the other solos you've done.

Hi Shiro! Would love to know what piano pieces you're working on now. I know you've been busy with grad school, etceteras, but you must be working on something. Right?

Well, one thing that bothers me right off the bat about that transcription is the constant switching back and forth every couple of measures between treble and bass clef in the left hand. I'd rather deal with a few ledger lines than have to make that mental switch so often. mad

I do love the piece, though, and it's worth working up just to have on tap for entertaining the in-laws after turkey dinner every year...
