I've got to spend a week in Reno for work and am going to miss playing my keyboard. I found a roll-up keyboard online and was wondering if it'd be worth paying the $47 for it just to keep me practicing for a week.

I've got one. Look around they can be found for a lot less. I'd say it's not really worth $47 but for $18 it's a fun novelty toy.

Their problem is that there is zero "feel" it is just like playing on one of those cardboard keyboards they used to put in beginner books. Also there is zero control of loudness. All notes sound at the same volume. And the sound is VERY "synthetic", not at all even close. It's just a video game like squawk.

OK that said, yes you can practice even on such a poor quality keyboard. But adapt what you practice. It would be a good time to memorize chords or some scales or study music theory. It is not very good for practice performance of classical music

If you have a smartphone, download a free piano app. Just as useful and expressive (read: not very) albeit smaller.

Chris A has it right.

I've already started a comparison and opened a topic on that.

You can find it here.

The comments I received made me give up with the purchase but if you find any new and more convincing products, please let me know!

Not very helpful perhaps but I find times when I'm not around the instruments, like a trip, to be very creative. I take the time to relax and think about the music and do writing or composing instead. When I do find a piano somewhere or return home the music is just flowing of the sheer enjoyment of being able play again.

It's like looking at your playing from another perspective. Unless you are going away for a long long time I'd say skip the toy and enjoy the break.

Cheers
Fred
