In the Kurzweil brand, I think an SP2X is about the level of piano I’m looking for. It sells for $900 - $1000. What models in other brands should I look at, that would be the competition for this one? My criteria for an instrument are:

1. Really good (similar to an acoustic grand piano) action
2. Very realistic sounds (especially acoustic grand piano)
3. I don’t care about having tons of sounds – a couple acoustic pianos, a couple electric pianos, a couple organs, and a couple string sounds would pretty much do it for me
4. I need to be able to use it as a midi controller (I forgot to put this in my initial post)

Thanks.
Steve

Skincer,

It's a little more expensive, but I highly recommend the Roland FP-7F.

Whatever you choose, be sure to try it out first. Good luck.

Bob

Looking at SP2X I see that length doesn't bother you. So it's worth to wait for Roland RD-300NX (february I think) or go for more expensive FP-7F with the same piano sound, but it has speakers and better keyboard and other possibilities, it's also heavier. It's the best piano sound on the market IMHO.

Roland FP-4

Yikes. I see street prices for the Roland FP-7F at $1900 - that's more than twice the street price I see for the SP2X ($900). Thanks for the reply.

If you can stretch your budget a little, it might be worth to have a look at the Kawai MP-6.

Or you could looks at some of the Yamaha, like the CP33.
