Try listening to these 18 Sonatas played by Yevgeny Sudbin.
My first reaction was that his playing of Scarlatti is on a level equal to pianists like Horowitz, Pletnev, Tipo, Pogorelich, Michelangeli.

The entire recording is here for free:

Do you know how I can save those selections PL ?

lovely playing.

When listening to the music of the composers from centuries past, I wonder always how they would react to a top notch grand of today.

I think K466 - (sonata in F minor) is my absolute favorite sonata. It is not in any of my books, I have this ancient copy.. Domenico probably penned it himself. It is difficult to read.

edit: I see IMSLP has quite an acceptable copy. Thanks PL

very nice; not quite up to tipo's effervescence, but nice.

It would be possible, but the quality of the resultant files would not be worth the bother. The point of them offering this for free is to encourage you to buy it.

Naxos also has two other excellent discs, one from Konstantin Scherbakov and another from Benjamin Frith.

i had his CD and like it, but when i told it to my teacher, he wasn't impressed after sampling it. he said Sudbin is typical Russian school, too heavy for Scarlatti.

i kind of agree with my teacher, because if you have heard Evgeni Bozhanov's Scarlatti, then Sudbin's doesn't sound that good any more. here is Evgeni's live recording from 13:02 that you can check out and compare:

if it doesn't play automatically, then click on the 1st link, and advance to 13:02 to listen.

Sudbin's the same piece playing is pale in comparison to this.
