Here's my Toccata for piano. Wrote it in 2001 while a grad student at USC. Recording quality isn't spectacular. It won the National Federation of Music Clubs Emil and Ruth Beyer composition award that year. I'm the performer in this recording. Have a listen, and hopefully enjoy!

Wow!
Brilliant.
Thanks for sharing your Toccata here, and welcome to PW.
Has anyone else played/performed this composition? Sounds like a very difficult piece to play.
Look forward to hearing more of your work.

Thanks! Actually yes my good friend and phenomenal pianist Roger Wright has played it with great success all over the country. He also recorded it. And yes it is very difficult.

That was totally awesome. When I saw the title was Toccata I was expecting something Baroque but that was very contemporary - much closer to Ligeti than to JSB. How long did it take you to write that?

Oh we have enjoyed it very much so (at least I have). Indeed it sounds like a great work!

Was wondering is there any way to:
a. Get more info about you?
b. Get more info about other works you've wrote?
c. Get our hands to the score of this particular work at least?

Nikolas

Wow I'm exhausted after only 3.48 minutes of listening. I can't imagine playing this. Seriously. This piece is totally awesome!

Wow, thanks for all the great responses! The piece took about 6 months to write, but only because I was really busy with school at the time and had to do it in my spare time. I'm trained as a pianist, that's what my degrees are in, but I've written music on the side since I was a kid. If you'd like more info about me, you can visit www.stratusphunk.com (I also write advertising music). As far as the score goes, at the moment I'm redoing it as my current copy is old and has a couple typos. But if anyone would like the score, just let me know and I'll get it to you.

Great! Thanks for the link and for the more general information (incidently I also do media work, mainly for computer games though... nothing to be 'scared' about over here I think! :D)

Oh, and nice performance as well (the tocatta I mean). Can we/you get our/your hands on the performance by Roger as well?

(why do I ask so many questions??? Not sure really...)

No problem. Thanks for the compliment. Checked out your site, great website, great work. How's commercial music over there? Business good?

Actually Roger's performance of the Toccata is for sale on iTunes, and on his site I believe as well http://www.rogerwright.com/

Check out some of his other recordings too, fantastic pianist, IMHO the greatest American pianist since Van Cliburn, no joke.

Wow, what a spectacular piece! I love music like this, although I could never ever play it, or at least not at that tempo! Please share future compositions!

Nice! It sounds more like an Etude than a Toccata but I guess thats subjective or I dont know the definition.
