Went for my first lesson and the teacher had got the wrong time in her diary!! So had to wait for half an hour before I could start... Sat listening to a young lad going through his scales etc. The teacher was hoping he would be ready for grade one exam in April.

The teacher seems very nice and after introductions I sat down. I do know a little about the piano notes. Well I do know where middle C is. Anyway I did try out the upright piano and the first thing I noticed was how light the keys were
As yet I am still waiting for my ydp161 which should be delivered next week and I'm sure that one has much heavier keys! I asked her how long it would take to get to grade 1 and she said it normaly takes about 2 years althouh dependant on studant it can take 18 months.

Hi Diypostie,

Glad you went for your fist lesson, I'm unable to comment on your new teacher, but it doesn't matter that it may take up until two years. Remember that music is a life long study. If your fortunate (or unfortunate as the case may be) to live till your 80 you would have only scratched the surface anyway. But in the meantime; live music, sleep music, eat & drink it.

Best,

Anthony.

Good luck!

I'm with Anthony. It isn't a race. Work at a pace that's comfortable for you, and most importantly, practice intelligently!
