I had never heard of him before. Seattle's KING-FM is playing his recording of the Beethoven Op. 106. It is one of the most kinetically exciting performances of this sonata I have ever heard, and he has technique to burn.

The first movement is fully up to tempo, the second movement has that thumbing parody of the previous movement down perfectly, and he is not afraid to move along the third movement, no Bruckner adagio for him. (So therefore we'll get through it before the New Year?)

The 4th movement Largo starts out almost meditatively, then at the Allegro the fires light. The fugue suddenly explodes in all its quirky glory, we're in for the ride of our life. And so it goes. This recording takes my breath away, it is everything I have wanted to experience with this sonata, it brings me back to my initial discovery as a lad of 15.

Maybe Liszt played it for Berlioz in this kind of white heat?

You folks need to hear this. No sloppy Schnabel, no grand-old-master Arrau, this is sizzling late Beethoven on the verge of the Grosse Fugue.

You will find a wealth of information if you search under "Stewart Goodyear" instead.

Stewie! Haven't heard him in quite a while, but glad to see he's doing well. Heckuva nice guy and a pretty darn good composer, to boot (did some interesting variations on Eleanor Rigby)

Would help if I spelled the first name correctly. (Too fixated with House of Stuart?)
