Has anyone tried either of these models yet? Is the built in LCD screen useful for learning? I'm thinking it can be much more useful than standard sheet music and accompaniment music such as mp3/cd.

I have a HPi-6F in our home and the screen is very useful but not the way they advertise it.

We don't use the 7 inch screen in the music holder, but we connected an old 17 inch lcd monitor to the VGA output of the piano which have the following advantages:
- The piano recognizes the higher resolution of the external screen, so it switches to 640x480 mode (much higher than the resolution of the small screen) - easier to read, more music is shown
- I can use the music rest for paper notation

Advantages of the HPi series:
- Our twins (3.5 year old) like the music games a lot
- The practice function is very good to evaluate your current performance (pitch and rhythm precision)
- You can easily choose short parts of the song to practice (without editing the midi file)
- You can add your favorite (or the ones your teacher requests) songs to the practice repertoire
- You can easily preview and listen new songs before practice

However for sight reading we don't use the screen at all because the quality of the notation is worse (simplified) than paper notation and the piano teacher expects the paper notation to be played live.

Conclusion: HPi has very good (the best among console pianos) tools which can generate and keep interest in playing and learning the piano and it might be used for self teaching. However I strongly suggest to have a proper teacher as well.

i have the 7F and im a complete beginner.

The children like the games, i mainly work from alberts book, and play midi files through th screen to try learn Yiruma smile

Great Pianos if you have childen and want to test your abilities of rythem etc, I was demod the Roland Range on a 307 and 10F, as the 7 F wasnt in store as it had only been released.

When i had it delivered 4 weeks later it had slight damamge, on the replacment i had the manager and roland Manahger come to deliver it, Both had never played one, but both commented on how better it felt over the older 307 etc.

I think as Kish said great for Kids and learners adds that extra help. But get a tutor as well so you dont get bad habits smile

good luck

Hello,

I am thinking on bying this piano. I am a adult, I have no children. Would it be suitable for me as well?
Is it possible to turn the screen off when you don't need it?
