Quite a good point, and one that is much overlooked.

I have fairly large hands, and my teacher has small hands, and though I can hit chords that she must break, she has an easier time with runs and some other things because her hands aren't getting in the way as much.

There are advantages and disadvantages to everything (within reason, of course).

But long, slender fingers with medium-to-big hands... that's the best of all worlds. No disadvantages. And I think a disproportionate number of concert pianists have precisely that hand profile....

That's not what I've observed. There is a growing number of female concert pianists, not to mention child concert pianists. People who complain about small hands are often just giving themselves an excuse to play badly.
