I went to a "Naked Furniture" store, bought a long, narrow sofa table that's almost the exact width of my keyboard, had them cut the legs down so my keys sit at 28 1/2" from the floor, had them paint it a satiny black to match my piano bench... and voila! Not very fancy, but I love that it makes it feel more like a real piano than the X-stand did. This may sound silly, but aesthetics are important to me. Shouldn't a piano be as lovely to look at as it is to play? Silly question: how does one post photos in a comment on this site? I've been mucking about, but can't figure it out. (Wanted to post some pics here of my little piano table.)

Looks good. Much nicer than the typical keyboard stand. Much.

And probably more stable, too.

Interesting!

I've decided I don't want to pay for an FP7 stand as they're unjustifiably expensive so I might drag the jigsaw out and make my own. Got any tips??

Hi Rimmer

As for tips ... I'd say screw or bolt everything.

I threw this together rather quickly with scrap wood and a coat of paint .... as you can see not made for a formal area.

I have not yet painted a piece added to keep my pedal in place
which moves rather easily on the type of floor.

BTW that piece is easily removeable to allow floor cleaning.

Anyways ... if you would like some dimensions, let me know.

Hiya.

My woodworking skills are elementary but I'm willing to give it a go. I'll probably go with a simple two bits of wood at the end as legs then a section in the middle to link and stabilise the stand (although I suspect using the existing screw holes on the bottom of the FP-7f will stabilise even further). Any ideas on the proper height or any other measurements gratefully recieved!!!

Thx very much thumb

Hi Rimmer

Note: the key to any fully stabilized rock solid stand are these diagonal elements (or sg similar).

As for height:
Quote
Steinway L grand: 28 1/8 inches from floor to top of white keys.

Cheers

Hey guys, nice work smile I use "double X" stand, and it's stable enough; "single X" isn't stable at all smile. Right now I'm building huge wardrobe with slider doors in my apartment, so maybe I'll build some stand for my DP.

This one is beautiful in it's simplicity. Was the table expensive? Looks like it's easy to convince wife to such solution smile

Stephen Hazel, I like your keyboard stand best. Could you PM me the measurements please?

Sorrrrry, I got no measurements...:)
Only one I had was height from floor to keys.
The rest of the measurements I took from where
on the cp33 I wanted it to hit and worked the
rest out as I tablesawed stuff.

Ya saw the google sketchup thing I did at
the bottom of here, though, right?
http://pianocheater.com/piano/rig.html

And where the cp33's rubber feet are,
I drilled some holes for em to fit into.

You should maybe consider screwing it into wall studs, too.
(but leave cord holes/gaps, etc).

Mine is a teeeeeeny bit wobbly, but decent enough
for my purposes.

I've also got a better pc keyboard platform-ish thing.
More room for wrists and mouse while in
computer programming mode.

Good luck in your build laugh

Thank you Stephen, I think I need to have my stand 60 cm from the floor. The height of the DP is about 12-13 cm from bottom to white keys. I believe I can work out the other measurements, and saw the pieces out in an elecrical saw, I can borrow it from someone.

I had found one drawing before which I was thinking about and discovered I needed about 3 square meters of wood, guess it would be similar with your version. Here is a picture of the other one.

Hey! an Ensoniq KS-32 - I used to have one of those laugh
76 keys, but the touch doesn't compare to my cp33.
