A 2 minute waltz in D major.

I listened to the mp3 and I liked it so I printed out the score and played through it a few times. I find myself noticing things when I tried to play it that I had not noticed when listening to the mp3. I then listened to the mp3 again and realized that in some ways I was playing it differently than how the mp3 sounded.

Overall I liked the piece - it was easy to listen to and not particularly difficult to play and had an uplifting mood. Here are the things I noticed from playing it: when I played the eighth notes I played them evenly but I notice you were swinging them - you probably want to add some indication to the score that the eight notes are swung. I actually liked it with straight eighths. The one section I had difficulty figuring out how to play, in terms of "how does this section relate to the rest of the piece and what mood should I be trying to create?" was measures 53-60. I'm assuming you were creating contrast with the original theme but I was expecting it go to minor to provide more contrast.

I tried the eighths both ways and agree they sound good straight. But my natural rhythm wants to swing them and I had to concentrate to play them straight, so I took the path of least resistance when I recorded it.

The section you mention actually begins at measure 49 and ends in 64. To me it creates a feeling of suspense like “where are we going?” The mystery is solved in m 63-64. The same 5 note melody is repeated each 4 measures in a new key a third higher until the key comes back to D. Notice the 5 note melody ends on the third scale degree and that becomes the tonic in the new key.
