NAMM 2011 starts January 13 and runs through the 16th.
Anaheim, CA

If you aren't familiar with it, the winter NAMM show is the biggest show of the year for music merchants, manufacturers, vendors, and suppliers.

It's a Musical Candy Store! (but it's also work)

QUESTIONS

  • Will you be attending the 2011 show?(If so we'd be happy to meet you, to discuss business, have a drink, or just to say hello) Kathy & I arrive the afternoon of the 12th and leave Monday the 17th.
  • Anyone know if the German Piano Manufacturers will be there this year? (they were missing last year). Bluthner, Steingraeber, Bosendorfer, Schimmel, etc.
  • Know where Steinway is this year (if they are there at all)?
  • Any word on the NPTA meeting (where/when)?

Before you ask The winter show is NOT open to the public, sorry.

That's what piano stores are for.

The show is not a place you'd want to try pianos out for personal purchase.
Way too crowded (86,000 people last year), way too noisey.

Check out the links to previous shows and you will see what I mean.

Pianos are a VERY SMALL part of the overall show.
The biggest displays are guitars/amps/brass/woodwinds/percussion, etc.
And yes, they are all making music/noise too.

Great Rich, would be happy to meet up.

I'll have Kathy with me, which means I'd better be getting some work done, but
I'm sure we'll have some relax time too.

I would go if I could, but don't expect to be able to get a pass. I went once when I was working for a local music store a few years ago, and if possible would like to go again. It just doesn't look like there'll be a way to go this year.

Question... would I need to be affiliated with some music store or industry to be able to get a pass, or would it be possible to get a pass if I'm self-employed? (Next year would be fine - I suspect I'm already too late to apply this year.)

It's possible.

NAMM is trying to reduce the non-business attendees Wed-Sat, instead hoping to push them over to Sun.

NAMM Introduces "Sunday Only" Yellow Badge
New yellow badge option helps you manage your allotment so you can get more business done.

The new Sunday Only yellow badge gives Exhibitors another option.

* Please take a look at your current yellow badge list, decide who needs to be there all four days and give them the traditional yellow badge.
* For all the others, give them the Sunday Only yellow badge. We're offering Sunday Only badges so that you can continue to invite those non-industry guests you’ve been inviting in the past. To clarify, Exhibiting Companies will have the same number of visitor badges you have always had, and now you will also have a separate and equal allotment of Sunday Only Badges.
* Sunday Only guests must be at least 18 years old.

The goal with this change is to relieve some of the aisle congestion on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. In the past few years we've taken many steps to enhance the value of the blue buyer badges (early floor access and preferred parking) and this change will help our buyers get around easier and get more business done.

Who will be showing pianos/organs/keyboards at NAMM 2011?

So far I've found (in mostly alphabetical order).
Note that I did not find the following listed (please correct me if I'm wrong)...

Bluthner, Steingraeber, Steinway

I assume Bosendorfer will once again be under the Yamaha banner.
