I could use a little help.

I am trying to come up with a comparables-type appraisal for someone with a 1964 Yamaha P1.

I am trying to determine 2 things:

1. Is this a 44" or 45" piano ( it was difficult to measure exactly because of the deep pile carpeting) and did Yamaha call it a console or a studio?

2. Where did this fit in their product line at the time? Was it a lower line like an M series, a higher line like a U or the only line available at the time?

BTW, it's not a grey market. They are the original owners.

Thanks for any help.

Regards,

Rick Clark

Rick, there was no model P1 imported by YCA in the 60's. There was a P2.

The "P" designation indicated a ~45" high scale.

Perhaps it was imported from Japan by the purchaser or by an unauthorized dealer. Back then Yamahas were rather limited in their distribution.
