Hello.

I am looking for a translation of the text of Bach's chorale "Gott, wie gross ist deine Güte".

The text reads:

Gott, wie gross ist deine Güte
die mein herz, auf Erden schmeckt;
Ach, wie labt sich mein Gemüte,
wenn micht Not und Tod erschreckt !
Wenn mich etwas will betrüben, wenn ich meine Sünde drückt,
Zeiget sie von deinem Lieben,
das auf mich verzeihend blickt;
d'rauf ich mich zu frieden stelle
und trotz bieten kann der Hölle.

Many thanks to everyone who can help me.

Is there a website where this sort of thing can be found ? I've had a look, but haven't yet been able to find anything.

edit.. I didn't see any translations but ran it thru Bing translator to give you and idea of what it could allude to.

Perhaps some German posters will help.

"God, how big is your kindness
my heart that tastes on Earth;
Oh, how feeds are my heart,
when advising terrified distress and death!
If something wants me grief when I expressed my SIN,
Sheweth of your loved ones,
This looks to me forgiving;
up I to me harmony and despite the heck can provide

Thanks, Apple, that's very kind of you. Hoever, it isn't very clear, I don't quite know what to make of it.

By the way, it's BWV 462 .

(Approximate, "by the seat of the pants" translation - sorry for any major mistakes):

God, how great is your goodness,
which my heart enjoys on earth!
How my soul feasts [on that goodness]
when distress and death frighten me!

When anything threatens me,
when my sins press in on me,
it [my soul] looks to Your love,
which looks down on me in forgiveness;

whereupon I become joyful,
such that I do not even fear heck.

forgive that Bing translator.. i find it pretty funny and occasionally helpful. my kids play with an audio translator which will speak in another language the text you want to translate.

I can't find the link now, but it is a hoot.
