Have you ever felt really frustrated at the world and played that one song that just releases all the hatred?

I'm really interested in what kind of music could do this for piano, since most music I play are minimalist and tend to be soothing to really vent out my frustration frown

So I was wondering what music do you guys play when you are sad or just plain frustrated? laugh

On A Day Like Today, by Keane.

It's basically the same 4 chords over and over again, so I don't really have to focus on the notes. Plus it gets really head bangy around the 3 minute mark.

OH MY GOD. Keane are my absolute favorite band. I can't play this song, but I can play Can't Stop Now, Everybody's Changing, We Might as Well Be Strangers, and Somewhere Only We Know. I love the honkey-tonk piano they recorded in the second verse of On a Day Like Today and I think the pounding from the second chorus to the finish is hypnotic. They recorded that album 'Hopes and Fears' with a Yamha CP-70 which has a very unique sound. gahhhh i love keane...'On a Day Like Today' is probably one of the best songs Tim's ever written and Tom sounds just like Fredyy Mercury when he goes way up there.

I said I wasn't going to hijack this thread, but ITSFREAKINGMEOUT reminded me of another song I like to play when I'm angry...

Another Keane one. It's played with a CP70 through distortion and I think tremolo effect pedal / rack.

P.s. ITSFREAKINGMEOUT, I pm'd you...

This is an easy question for me. Many years ago (about 50) a teacher assigned me a piece called "Burning of Rome" by E.T. Paul.

It's very satisfyingly loud, wild and dramatic with sections with labels like: Dash of the Charioteers for Position, Parade of the Victors, People in Consternation, Alarm of Fire, People rush wildly through the streets, Crash of falling walls etc. You get the idea.

I play it several times in a row depending how angry I am.

My wife waits until I play something else before she asks what's wrong :-)

Works for me.

Depending on the day, the mood, and the situation, I really like to play Never Say Never, by The Fray. I learned to play it by ear and I came up with a pretty simple arrangement. The beginning of the song is pretty quiet; however, there is a really gradual buildup, I'd say the loudest point would be at the bridge of the song. The song, I've found, is in A flat major, a key signature that I personally almost never play in. Good to change things up!!:)

If I sit down at the piano to vent, I usually don't play anything but what comes to mind. as in improvising totally. I pride myself with being able to sit at the piano with no music and portray what mood I am in by what I play while improvising. Back to venting frustration, my music usually consist of lots of sustain pedal work and low notes.

I can't play the piano to this one, but I love to listen to it when I'm angry. The lyrics match my mental state perfectly, but the music is so catchy and perky and bouncy that I start to feel better despite myself:

WARNING: Two instances of the F-word reside within, so don't press play if you don't like to hear the F-word. wink

p.s. The rest of their album ("Ordinary World") is filled with songs just like this one. It's one of my favorite workout albums to play while I'm at the gym.

That reminds me of this...

I LOL so hard after hearing it. I mean... Cat Stevens who wrote Peace Train singing about getting a gun!

To defend him... I hear he wrote it for a Billy The Kid musical.
