Printed programs for the municipal band concert. I am running low on toner, and have to fool the printer into printing some more pages.

Tuned a Story & Clark today, had to pitch raise, set the temp, tuned up and adjusted on the way back down. It was a semitone low to start with.

Returned the rental car I've had all week. My car has been in the auto body shop being repaired from the damage caused by one of my tuning customers backing into it in his driveway. So, I've had a brand new Chevy Malibu all week. Sweet car! Pitch-raised and tuned a nice Samick console this afternoon...only 5 minutes from my house.

Read books, caught lizards, played the piano, went to Chick-Fil-a, the ice cream shop, and now home.

Eric, I had that happen to me, as well. Now, if I notice someone from the house is going to leave, I always remind them I'm in the driveway, and ask if they need me to move. After that incident, I parked in the street - then a customer's neighbor from across the street took out my driver's door with his SUV as he backed out of his driveway. He said "no one EVER parks there". I finished my day by climbing in though the passenger side door, as the driver's door wouldn't open. Not very graceful. So now, I'm back to parking in driveways.

Yes, Kevin is SO needed around this region! We send him as much work as we can...and he has a ton of local history regarding all the techs, the stores, and even many of the pianos in homes around here!

He's coming to our shop next month to assist us again!

Tuned 24 pianos in four days (sheesh!) and today did catchup business and got 4 hours in shopwork done too...tomorrow we head off to Chicago to catch up with Gary Wright and the Ringo Starr band...Life is good...

I had my car totaled last year by the neighbor of a client backing into it! What is it with piano tuners' cars? Are they the Rodney Dangerfields of motor vehicles? No respect!

Today I have two tunings on a Steinway "D" for a Jon Nakamatsu concert with Symphony Silicon Valley in downtown San Jose. I hope the pitch stays in the somewhere within sight of 440--it's outdoors...

Have the movers leave some blankets. The secret to tuning for outdoor concerts is to raise the lid with the fly unfolded, and cover it and yourself with movers blankets. That cuts out almost all the noise and you can tune in peace.

BDB, this may be a dumb question but, what is "the fly?" I picture a zipper... wink Is that the front part of the lid that you first open before you raise the lid?

Thanks, BDB. That's apparently part of the promoter's modus operandi. I hope the blankets are light colored.

If it were around here, I'd hope the blankets were waterproof, too!

I learned to do this once when it rained. The original idea was to keep the piano dry. Muffling the sound was an added benefit.

Nice day for an outdoor tuning, actually...it was 75 degrees with 47 percent humidity pretty much all day, the piano was shielded by a large stage shade.

Over the past couple of days, I tuned a Yamaha C7, Steinway O, and an old Poole spinet (never seen action below the keys before - a new one).

My ears and shoulder are shot!
