I have just bought a German made upright Piano called Zimmermann. It look quite old but the internal parts look pretty OK. I paid about USD1,200.00 for it. The sound is mellow, the feeling when striking the keys was also good.

Can someone tell me more about this brand because I have not seen such a brand in the market, nor have I heard it mentioned before in this forum.

Hope I have made the right choice.

Hi Jenny,

welcome to the forum smile

For information about your Zimmermann go to the Bechstein webpage http://www.bechstein.de.
The Zimmermann piano company is (now) owned by Bechstein. If you can find the serial number of your piano you can probably get more information from Bechstein and/or other members on this forum.

Cheers,
Nici

"Zimmermann" pianos older than 10 years were made in East Germany, the previous GDR.

Conveniently they were called "German" by
shaby dealers who wanted to cash in on the good reputation of genuine true German makes.

Unfortunately these pianos were quite below standard of anything produced in the Western world we know. For a [really] low price they'll do a basic job but "true, blue German"
.....they certainly ain't![...weren't!]

Jenny,

if the piano is older than 10 years, Norbert is right. But you said it "looks old" and therefore I didn't automatically assume that the piano IS old. I personally find that even last year's models look "old" as opposed to pianos of other makes.
Find the serial number and check out the date your piano was build.

Norbert,

have you ever come across a Fuchs & Moehr piano, also made in the former GDR? Gosh, they are awfull. Baah!

Thank you so much for your feedback.

I am not able to locate the serial number. May I know usually where is the serial number located. Sorry for that but I am a first-time piano owner. Everything is so new to me. I have actually bought this piano for my 8-yr old son who just started piano recently. He is very enthusiastic with the Piano (not really knowing how to differentiate the average from the good), and has been practising consistently on it. I hope the enthusiasm will really last. By the way, I am also learning with him, on my own, using his material. Hope that works for me!
