I'm not sure if this forum is familiar with China made pianos.

Is Yangtze River a well-known brand at all ? Does anyone know its pedigree ? They don't seem to have a website.

This is the picture I snapped at the Music Fair in Shanghai. But they don't have a catalog yet.

I see.

In case others here are not aware, Parsons Music has made components and products for other makers for some time now.

I am not familiar with what they make and for whom, but apparently other names that we are more familiar with here at PW have either used components made by Parsons or had a model made by them.

Additionally, there are many new pianos being made and distributed in China that we never see here. I would like to think that the better brands find their way to the USA, but I do not know this.

I would think that pianos go to the country that is most profitable for the maker - and that might not be the USA.

that's right, USA is not important enough. the biggest market is china and india and some developing country.

From what I understand, Parsons will build within a wide quality range for anyone selling into any market who offers a good contract price. grin

I remember an industry pro, I think it was Steve Cohen, posting here that while the US market has certainly become less relevant in terms of unit sales, it still has relevance as a strategic market....sort of like "if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere". I think Rich Gal(assini) has it right. Of course, when I see pianos with 'Parsons' on the fallboard, I'll give greater weight to the global view coming from Xichang. grin

Cashley,

If you're still here, why don't you start a thread on Shanghai Music Show and post all your photos from it. There are many here whowould have more interest in that than in the direction that this thread is going.
