Thanks all for the nice comments and good wishes!

"You take very very good photos too by the way."
Thanks, used an olympus 8080 cam and nothing can beat daylight :-)

"Whoever restored it did a great job!"

I will forward the compliments !

"If there were a prize for the best set of pictures of a new piano, you should be nominated!"
Let's make a thread where everyone can post a picture he nominates? Then we can see the best pictures from everywhere on pianoworld. I have seem some other beautiful pictures here

"Listening to that piano and looking at the lack of front or rear duplex features on the instrument, the thought came to me that duplexes must be nothing but marketing hype.
The front part of the treble area is interesting to me. Including the capo Bar, there are three pressure bars. Usually, there are just two."

Mmmm, I suppose the area between the two front pressure bars are functioning as a sort of duplex scale?

"Bosendorfer is another that opts out, and yet in other regards, Grotrian & Bosendorfer differ greatly."

Yes, Grotrians sound quite different from the average piano. I'm not sure what but they sound more open to me. And I liked Grotrian particularly because of the seamless connection to the bass part without strange muffled sounds.

"BTW what is the name and composer of the beautiful piece you played on it?"

The composer is Grieg, and the piece is Ases Tot, which is part II of the Peer Gynt suite.

Maharishi, one day you will have your piano. Looking forward to your pictures :-)

As beautiful as the piano is, your photos were positively breathtaking. thumb You should try to sell them to Grotrian. I had to laugh at the one showing the polished fallboard, though; it was so mirror-like you could see clearly the pile of papers stacked on the window sill in the reflection! (And was that a kerosene lamp??)

Yes but unfortunately this is their OLD model :-D I could offer to make pictures of their new model but I would have to make costs for that

Yes it's a pile of papers and a kerosene lamp :-) I like these lamps, they give a shimmering light that changes all the time. Don't turn them on too often though, it gives such a smell indoors :-o It was already there and I liked that lamp as reflection also

Hello,

When looking at your pictures, I see that the frame was fabricated by the sand-mold technique, my 1991 Cabinet Grotrian's frame was molded by another technique which gave a smoother finition.

What year is your Grotrian?

Thanks

One of my favorite brands and an amazingly beautiful one pictured here! Enjoyed your Grieg!!! That beautiful dark sound really sets the Grotrian apart. Truly a unique piano!

Indeed, great pics of a beautiful instrument.

I have one question: is it standard practice to have the damper heads of the monochords sitting lower than the rest? I've never (consciously) seen this, but mortal that I am, I don't normally move amongst grand pianos... wink

Nice tripod you have used for the photos as well. That shows the quality of the refinishing!

This thread looks to be from four years ago. I figured it out when the mp3 did not play. Nice photos . . .

It is a particularly lovely machine. Do we need an excuse for reviving the thread?

I almost got a 7' Grotrian Steinweg. One of the "Ones that got away" along with that 6' Bluthner.....

I have seen a version of the duplex scale feature on the newer Bosendorfers. Which is kind of ironic when way back in the day, (1872), Louis Bosendorfer publicly proclaimed that Steinways Duplex scale was a fraud.

I have a new type of duplex scale that is still patent pending. I call it; Fully Tempered Duplex Scale. There is a thread in the piano Technicians forum about it if you are interested.

Back to OT. Wow! this Grotrian has been very well kept and detailed. Where did you buy it from? I couldn't get the audio link to play.
