This weekend I picked up a Bose L1 compact for use with my Roland RD700GXF. I gig about 2-3 times a year for people at my work for holiday parties mostly as a background/cocktail pianist.

Bose had a nice sale on factory refurb units so it came in about $200 below a new unit which was enough to get me to buy it. I wasn't overly interested when it was $1000+ with tax but on sale for the refurb, it became more attractive.

So far, I like the unit. It seems to project fairly accurate sound nicely around my home. I particularly like the speaker extension stand that elevates the sound to ear level and above.

Just wondering what others think of this speaker system for a digital piano for gigs here and there?

I considered buying two poles and two subwoofers but the cost was just too much. When I added in the cost of flight cases it was way too much for me. Great that you got a good price!

I have two 802's from about 20 years ago and they are still great sounding. I might upgrade to the 802 Series III (I have II), but there's simply not enough work to justify that expense at the moment.

Been using a Bose L1 for years and its great. Started with a model 1 shortly after it came out then switched to a model 2 when it arrived. My wife usually uses it for vocals while she plays piano but its killer with a keyboard too. In fact I used a lone L1 with a spur of the moment 2-keyboard get together here:

... I think I used double bass units that day but I usually go with just one. It's amazing how it doubles as a stage monitor and sounds no louder 1 foot away as in the farthest reaches of a venue. And without feedback in the vocal mics.

Howard,

That sound in your video is very impressive. If that was all amplified through an L1, then this system is much better than I estimated.

I tried it against my korg KC150 and the bose is definitely an improvement for me and a bit lighter to transport.

So far, I'm happy with my purchase. I'd recommend it to others except for the price. Even on sale, it's kind of expensive but it is unique (this aspect appeals to me)

Peter
