Wurtilizer console, untuned for 12 years. PR, tune, adjust pedals, clean groty keys.
Yamaha U-1, tuned
4 year old Steinway B, pitch adjust from 10 c flat or so, tuned, adjusted pedals.

Tuned a Yamaha T121 today; haven’t had the chance to put a hammer on one of these yet. Not a bad instrument. Then a small Mason & Risch vintage grand called a Steinbach.

Now back to the shop to start another grand project that just sold.

Put on 104 miles today. Dropped by my cousins company on the way to my first job to pick a hard drive for a friend then, off to tune 2 pianos. A Yamaha G3 and an older Grinell upright that my dad started servicing back in 1955, 1 year before I was even born. From there, drove the opposite direction just to visit my chiropractor. Then, drove to my next job, another church to tune 2 pianos. An Everett studio and an Everett spinet. After that, drove out of my way to pick a replacement chute for my John Deere lawn tractor. My old one broke. There went $90.00. All in all, another nice day.

Started off with a 1967 Kohler & Campbell spinet that hadn't been tuned for a while; raised it 50 cents. From there, off to 2 at a church. First was a Weber console that had incredibly hard hammers. Had to lower that around 10 cents. Second one was an old Gulbransen spinet that had to come up around 30 cents.

Nice, easy day with good driving weather.

I am in the shop prepping/cleaning up a restoration of a Thomson & Sons upright for mover’s pick-up this morning.

BTW this October has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays, all in 1 month. It happens once in 823 years.

The same 5 day weeks were also in October of 2004, October 1999, October, 1993 Etc.

Well, it might be nice to get a CFX, but I am still waiting. I was very impatient to get rid of the last CFIII.

Was called out to tune a Steinway upright... I was holding my breath upon entering the house... It turns out it was a beautiful 1980s Hamburg V, 130 cm (52"), amazing clear tone. Fantastic one piece ivory keytops. 73 dampers and probably could have used a few more, the treble sustain was so long.

Makes me wish that they would learn to build uprights in New York....

No CFIIIS tonight. It would not fit up the stairs. House Steinway M, instead.

Yesterday, I reinforced some bridge pins on my Ibach upright with epoxy putty. The pins had been inserted shoddily and bent into position (to get more side-bearing) after being inserted into the bridge, leaving elongated holes on the side opposite the string, or sometimes on the notched part. Filled these with epoxy, being careful not to get any on the strings, then carefully painted the repairs on the bridge cap black - have some pictures, if anyone is interested. All of this in preparation for a pitch raise.

Today, finished my self-made glue pot and did a few tests with hide glue to get the feel for temperature, dilution, wood vs. cloth, etc.

Did a small Bergmann grand in a church first. This thing had out of phase everything. From there, a 1950's Acrosonic that had to be raised 100 cents. After that, a gorgeous old Steinway ex-reproducer.

Did 4 homes yesterday. Sort of... Tuned A Baldwin console that tuned very nicely. I tuned it almost 2 years ago come January. It was a bit sharp, left it there, it'll drop in a month or two. Tuned a Gulbransen console built in 1950. Very nice tuning piano with a great sound yet for an old booger. But then, we'd been tuning it since it was new too so I guess that helped. Tuned a Yamaha console built in Japan many years ago, also tuned almost 2 years ago come January. In great shape yet. Had done some action work on it 20 years ago, hammer carding, regulation etc. Still doing good. Looked at an older Cable Nelson spinet made by Everett. Not tuned in 31 years. 1/2 tone flat, great tone yet, considering. Gave an estimate. Hammers were bobbling so badly I didn't even want to try and tune it not to mention, many of them were sticking so, I refused to tune it until the work was done first. She wants it done so, I sub contracted that one out because I can't touch it until at least spring.

Things are very slow in New Jersey as of late. But today my piano tech friend John and I are going up to Princeton to move move his clients grand about 18 inches from a window. It's on hardwood flooring, so I'm bringing three ez-slides to help. Of course we first have to lift the piano and get the caster cups out from under each leg while replacing with an ez-slide. After this first hectic phase, I'm sure we'll need a short rest. Then on to sliding the piano away from the window.
After all this sweaty labor I'm sure we'll stop off for some Dunkin' Doughnuts and green tea.
Thursday will be a lot worse, lol. I'm scheduled to tune a 1940's Janssen spinet which according to the owner hasn't been tuned in 25 years. So I'm certain to be looking at two pitch raises and one fine tuning in order to tame this under- maintained little jem.

Three Baldwins and a Whitney.

7, Kawai KG 6ft, nice, Baldwin L, Young Chang PG-150, Kawai RX-2, 2 Kawai studios, Sojin 6', and Cable spinet 1/2 step plus flat. All but the Cable long term customers.

Tuned a Pearl River UP108, a six month tuning. At most it was 1.5 cent off. But F6 was slow to return, so I pulled the key and the front rail pin was turned almost 45 degrees, I believe this piano is no more then 2 years old. Is it common practice to adjust side to side key movement this way from the factory?
