I thought I would take the family photos out of the music room and put them in the ballroom. So I want some images of the truly great to go into the music room. I had thought:

Ashkenazy
Beethoven
Brahms
Chopin
Debussy
Horowitz
Liszt
Mozart
Rachmaninoff
Rowlf
Rubinstein

I know we are never going to agree on the list but what does anybody think?

Maybe not the best thread to do this in, start a new one? Anyway, my 2 cents are that composers - sure, your list looks great (though you're missing Bach). Great pianists are a dime a dozen though, so unless you find a particular one inspiring...

I guess I'll add a picture to keep the good times going. Here's the face-off between my Yamaha CP4 and Lyon and Healy baby grand. My tuner, who has longer arms than me got carried away and was playing them both at once for a while last time he visited. That rug is now gone - all it wanted to do was roll itself up around the pedal lyre.

hope to contribute to this thread with a picture of my new piano soon, however the search for the best piano at the best price is as difficult as buying a house.

Problems with piano are 90% psychological, the other 10% is in your head.

It's a beautiful setup!

I'm wondering if the two table lamps on the sides move as the whole piano vibrates while you play?

Regards,

DanL (and Hitry) - thanks! Those lamps did rattle, mostly because I took them apart to rewire and clean and then couldn't quite get them back together correctly. They were also less than ideal for reading music, although they looked nice. I replaced them over the weekend with two $10 LED lamps from IKEA, which work much better, and are much less obtrusive.

I like this. The genuine, and the usurper. The anglepoise is real, the oil lamps are not. . . grin

Only had my very first acoustic piano for a few weeks now and here it is. My one and only local piano store did not have a fantastic range but this Kawai K8 was obviously the best in the shop, so I just had to have it. We are all still adapting to the new kid in town, including the dogs who don't seem to mind whichever way I hack Bach or Chopin.

There is a film of Billy Mayerl doing exactly that on the British Pathe website- playing 2 pianos at once, that is.

Very nice! Congratulations! It sounds as though the new piano has passed the dog test. How are you liking it?

That looks like a Bach Invention on the music desk. I can't quite make out which one.
