Hello,
I was wondering if there is any software one can use to practice the piano in conjunction with a midi keyboard (or digital piano). What I'd like is something that shows the music on screen and tells you if you played it well or not via the midi keyboard.
I'd like to hear if you have experience with such software.

It says online, does that mean you have to be connected to the Internet to use it?

...just checked again, and it does look like an online product, which is ok, but can be a little bit of a problem.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have downloaded Synthesiagame, but unfortunately the option for showing the score isn't available for evaluation, one has to pay to use it. So could anybody tell me how it performs? I'm interested if it can detect mistakes etc.

I've watched the promotional video of Pianomarvel and it seems to be the kind of piano tool I'm after. But again I'd like to hear from someone who tried it before subscribing. I don't really like it being an online monthly subscription based product, I would have preferred a stand-alone software.

I subscribe, but I don't get the chance to use it as often as I'd like. I agree with you about preferring it if it was a stand-alone program, though.

There's a free trial you could take advantage of to see what you think - I don't recall it being restricted in any way.

There's also my wierd little app.

It won't grade you, but it'll keep track of the days you practice each song and WAIT for you to hit the right notes and such stuff like that.

And if you need any help with it, pleeeeeeeeease email me (or get me here or somethin)

The fee for using PianoMarvel is $15 per month and you can try it free for 1 month. I would suggest trying the free month and you will know by then if it is for you.

Well, i can only speak for PianoCheater.
But, it should be used WHILE you are taking lessons from a piano teacher.

If you're using books or software alone, well,
it could be a loooong road for ya;)

Synthesia is just $20 to unlock practising and scores, I am using it with midi files, it is very very helpful. I am currently doing Hannon exercises with this software and you can get all 60 midi files for Hanon exercises in the forum section of the site. Syhthesia can detect errors, but only "extra" keys your are adding to the piece...

My Digital Piano (Yamaha DGX-640C) can play midi file, have a small display to show the music notation, a built-in 'waiting' function which wait until you press the right key, and give you score after the song ended. But for me, 'waiting' function is really annoying.

Most of Yamaha DP can be attach to the computer via usb connector, and by using its software (Yamaha Digital Music Notebook) you can buy Accompaniment files (aka. midi file) from their site and use it to learn piano etc. I don't know if 'Yamaha Digital Music Notebook' have the ability to show us if we play the right note or not. I myself never like 'Yamaha Digital Music Notebook'. I uninstall it after it crash several times.

I prefer this software to help my learning process:
- MidiPiano (freeware) http://code.google.com/p/virtualpiano/
- Anvil Studio (freeware) to change the channel/instrument/track in midi file
- MuseScore (freeware) to print music notation from midi file

to Jose Hidalgo: I don't think so. Although I learn to play piano from my Digital Piano + Midi + YouTube video, I still need music/piano theory.
