Hello All, Does anyone know if Pleyel will make Grand pianos again ? I played an up right last week and just fell head over heels with it. I went back to the piano several times just to play it. Can anyone give me some information if one can still buy a new one or buy a recondition or used one ? Sincerely Yours, Steve

bigbird, Are you serious about buying a piano or do you just enjoy starting up several threads over the past 2 years , here, talking about buying a Bosendorfer, Steingraeber, Fazioli , Yamaha and now 3 threads on Pleyel over the past 2 days.

No criticism intended, it just appears that you aren't really interested in purchasing a piano as much as starting numerous threads, that receive many sincere responses, without any follow up from you.

Hello 1BigBird,
It is my understanding that no new Pleyels are coming into the US. They quit making verticals and are still making grands. They even have a new model of grand, 208 designed by Stephen Paulello, who has designed for his own small company in France and for Hailun.

I bought one, a 190, for our store a couple of years ago. It truly is a unique and very beautiful piano with so many wonderful qualities. We have not sold it in the store. So last week I moved it to our home to be one of my wife's two grands. It replaced another very famious piano and she is very happy with it. It does have a unusual, sort of mellow and colorful tone. Very striking with Romantic music.

If you want to play one I guess that you could come to Dallas.
Atlantic Music in Florida might still have one. Otherwise, fly to Paris and try many.

I'm glad that you really can value the tone of pianos.

I was never able to get my hands on one. I hope to get a piano in a year or two. I try to get the most information on a piano as I can. Spending thousands of dollars I would like to know what I'm getting. Sincerely Steve

Dear Gary, Thanks so much for getting back to me. Thanks for the info. It's sad to see so many piano companys going out of business due in part to China. I will try to call you. Sincerely, Steve

Not so fast.

Those who build truly superb pianos without compromise will not go out of business any time soon.

In fact some these companies are *growing* - SELLING to the Chinese...

Those who build second or lower lines of pianos trying to compete with the Chinese - watch out!

Perhaps this should be translated into both German and Japanese
with letter head addressing: "to whom this may apply"

Norbert
