Wow that looks pretty hard piece. The built-in camera microphone does no justice to your playing...
For some reason my player stops at 0:52 while the timeline says it should last up to 2:11
Just curious, how do you play such from the top of your head? Is it mostly "muscle memory"? Or do you remember every note before you play it? If you remember every note, do you remember it as a finger position, as a letter, as how it should sound, its position in the chord?

Thanks Nogueira, wouter79 wouter79: Could you please try the following link as well, and let me know if you still have the same problem. http://www.box.net/shared/a34z42t8qfAs for memorizing a piece, usually I divide it into small sections, and repeat each section slowly until I can play all the notes right up to tempo. This develops a muscle memory, slow practicing develops score memory, also I play the piece in my mind when I am away from the instrument. All of these develop a mixture of muscle, visual and aural memory all together.

That's a difficult piece to play evenly for me. It's easy to execute, but to produce the smooth effect is difficult.

Thanks for explaining the memorization!
I tried to play it on box.net but I just get a black screen. It may be because I'm working on my 8 year old backup computer because my laptop broke down last week....
I then downloaded the flv and tried to play back using VLC 0.8.4. Again no luck, nothing happens at all, no error message, nothing... The message window says
main debug: looking for demux2 module: 39 candidates ps warning: this does not look like an MPEG PS stream, continuing anyway main debug: using demux2 module "ps" main debug: looking for a subtitle file in /Users/wouter/Desktop/ main debug: `/Users/wouter/Desktop/Hakki-Rachmaninoff-Prelude-op-23-no-7.flv' successfully opened ps warning: garbage at input, trying to resync... ps warning: found sync code main debug: EOF reached macosx debug: input has changed, refreshing interface main debug: closing input main debug: unlocking module "ps" main debug: unlocking module "access_file" main debug: thread 43617280 joined (src/input/input.c:386) main: nothing to play
Also tried mplayer but it did not work either...

wouter79: Do you have this problem only for this specific video? For example, there is another Rachmaninoff prelude in my channel, can you watch it normally? Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjrUUdjRbcM&NR=1

Hakki,
Very nice playing also in that other video. The sound is compressed a bit too much, maybe you can use a higher bitrate for the sound. And maybe you can clean the lens ;-)
However unfortunately the same problem, this time it stops at 1:43 with loading (red bar does not proceed from there and the playing stops when the cursor reaches that point). The video says it is 3:31 but the loading freezes.

wouter79,
Maybe the video is being buffered at times, depending on the connection speed at that moment.
Did you try waiting for a couple of minutes, or does it stop forever?

Yes I waited pretty long, restarted the playing twice by dragging the cursor back over the timeline. But it did not continue loading.
"Here are the mp3 files for both of the preludes."
That 2010 recording is very nice!!! I really enjoyed and yes I am really picky. In my music collection now :-)
The 1987 recording plays fine too now. Playing is nice but sound quality is very low. Probably bad mic ;-)

Thanks wouter79. I am glad that the mp3 files worked.
Yes, the 1987 recording was indeed recorded by the built-in mic of a Betamax camcorder (1980's technology). Also, there was some hiss noise, which I tried to reduce with an audio editing software.

This is a difficult piece that I have briefly looked and then put away because it looked too difficult. You play very wonderfully, and this seems like a good encore piece. Perhaps I will return to it now after watching you.

Thanks. It is indeed a difficult piece, but IMO, with some slow practice you can manage it. Glad that this video inspired you to come back to such a wonderful piece.
