Title of piece:Nocturne No. 20 in C# Minor
Composer:Frederic Chopin
Duration:03:39
Source of music:Sheet Music
Instrument used:Yamaha P-155
Recording method:Analog cables from digital piano to line-in on PC. Recorded with Audacity.
Technical feedback wanted:No
Additional info:Alright, so I wasn't entirely ready for this recital. I'm still practicing this piece but decided to just make a quick recording and submit it last minute anyways. You'll probably notice that it still needs work (especially the runs at the end) but I am still working on it, and will continue doing so after this recital (it's one of my favorite pieces, plus it's loads of fun to play so no trouble there).

I just figured I'd go ahead and throw it out there since it's passable, these are informal after all. Got this recording on the second take. Hope you guys enjoy listening as much as I do playing. Now back to practicing! =)

Title of piece:Ballade Pour Adeline
Composer:Paul De Senneville
Duration:02:18
Source of music:Sheet Music, with some variations
Instrument used:Yamaha C1 with acoustic foam placed over the strings (so I can play without ear plugs in spite of my tinnitus).
Recording method:Zoom H2, sitting on the right side of the music desk
Technical feedback wanted:Yes
Additional info:I had to submit a fairly inexpressive version because every time I got all hot and heavy on it I made a boatload of mistakes... and the clock was ticking. I settled for one that didn't flub on the 2 fast parts even though the pretty parts came off a little dull. This is a nice piece when done well.

Title of piece:Still Crazy After All These Years
Composer:Paul Simon
Duration:04:24
Source of music:Paul Simon guitar song book.
Instrument used:Roland KR17M Digital Grand
Recording method:Flip HD camera. MP3 extracted using WinFF.
Technical feedback wanted:Yes
Additional info:This song is from Paul Simon's 1975 album Still Crazy After All These Years. It has long been one of my favorite songs, especially the soulful sax at the break which I tried to simulate by changing to an electric piano voice for the instrumental solo. You may hear my squeaky bench and my dog trying to get comfortable on the couch.

Title of piece:Sonata in Bb, K.333, Mvt.1
Composer:Mozart
Duration:07:56
Source of music:sheet music
Instrument used:Charles Walter 1520 upright
Recording method:Tascam DR-08. Recorded in two sections, with split between the exposition and development. Spliced in Audacity.
Technical feedback wanted:Yes
Additional info:Ever since I first heard this sonata, I have wanted to play it, so I am really happy to be learning it now. This piece has been an unexpected challenge for me. The notes themselves are so simple, I could almost sight-read them. (Nothing like the complex chords and patterns in some Debussy and Chopin pieces that I've been learning.) And two years ago, that's exactly what I would have done -- just read the piece, played it through, and moved on. But the most important thing I’m learning from my teacher is that there is so much more to music than just playing the right notes. It’s been a revelation to explore this piece phrase by phrase, working on the expression and discovering how it all fits together if you can get it right. I worked especially hard on articulation and dynamics, although I would love to be able to perform it with more subtlety and delicacy. The set of four turns near the end of the recapitulation has been my nemesis throughout. And sorry about the slow tempo. There is so much more I could still work on with this, but the deadline approaches. Hope you enjoy!

Additional info:This piece is meant to be played Presto according to my elderly piano teacher who passed away a few weeks ago, and to whom this piece is dedicated. She was always telling me to play it faster. On the due date of submission I tried to play it faster but could not get a decent take, so on the final take I played it a bit slower and was able to get this, my fastest acceptable take.

Additional info:Well I hope to be able to get some good videos going at some point. I always seem to leave it till the last min but what bugs me the most is I play the video on my PC and it looks great. Upload it to You Tube and then the timing is off (MP3 to video) may end up deleting we'll see.. smile

Lunch, snacked on a chocolate granola bar..

Cheers
