In case this hasn't been posted or anybody isn't aware:
My new Zoom Q3 came with software version 1.02 (shows on the screen at start-up).
Someone guided me to the Zoom website - there's a software upgrade to version 2.01 that includes a "Scene Select" menu item. This made a big difference for me in low-light settings (indoor shooting).
You can find it here

Thanks, EP! I saw that on the other thread but promptly forgot all about it, so I needed the reminder.

Thanks for letting me know EP.
I got to the last step no.4 and couldn't find the Version Up menu.
I will try again, hopefully either I or the software upgrade will function better tomorrow.

Just recorded this using the Zoom Q3...

The piano is a Casio Celviano AP-220. I'm using a 'rigged'
mic stand for the overhead shot.

Eweiss -- will you post a picture of your "rigged" mic stand to get the overhead shot? This is a great setup! smile

Hi Sophie. All I did was duct tape a mini tripod stand to a mic stand. This gives me amazing flexibility since I can literally shoot from any angle.

I screw in the Zoom Q3 and it's good to go. I'll see about that picture. smile

For those who have been contemplating a Q3, you may be interested to hear that I got an email from my Sweetwater rep saying that they have dropped the list price of the Q3 to $199, but if you call and ask for the "special deal" they will make the price even lower.

I got the same offer Monica. I called and got the deal. Mine is on the way.

I'm still messing around with my Zoom H4. I really like how it records piano, but dynamics are pretty much non-existent (and I know it's not my playing!). I'm sure it's user error and some settings that I need to fiddle with when I have the time!

It's very convenient, though, and quick to set up and take with me.

Eweiss -- It would be very helpful to see how you tape the whole thing together! smile I really like your angle of the camera work. BTW, your YT video is set as private.

Morodiene -- I have an H2 and when I set it at 4 channel stereo, it sounds quite "authentic" -- much better than the 2 channel setting (which sounds quite one-dimensional). Hope this helps. smile

Do you need 2 more (external) microphones to do 4-channels with the H2?

No. Just choose the 4 channel setting on the H2. smile
