Hi ya'll,
Back again looking for the best advice on the net!
The story: I have been playing keys in local blues-rock jams, some organ, some piano. Mainly playing the proper jazz comp chords and tri-tone bass comps I've studied for the last 9 months(till I am comfortable with the fills and static riffs I practice). It is a good technique that sees me thru all kinds of styles. Generally the guitarist tells me the guitar chords and shows me the progression real quick between songs. Then I wing it. So far it's worked pretty good.
Evidently someone saw me rockin' out on Midnight Hour(a simple song)which resulted in me being asked to fill-in for the organist of a local funk band for a month or 2. HUH? lol:). I'd like to do it if I can learn enough to properly fake it, I have 2 weeks to prepare. By fake it I mean keep it as simple as possible while doing an acceptably funky job.
I checked online funk organ vids. Nothing basic, all for advanced funk players, where organ is the lead instrument. No patterns for the chord or scale notes. Proper funk appears to jump around the manual a lot, and use widely spread, 2 hand chord voicings, often played as 16ths. Free lesson sites won't show you the sheet music.
Since the band has 2 guitars and 2 horns for melody, and I won't be required to solo, I think I should be able to pull this off.
If anyone can provide a link to basic funk technique, or give me some pointers on funking up my blues, stock funk patterns/voicings/alt chords for a given root, or anything funky, I'd be greatly indebted to you.
Thanks again,
mannshands

Another aging guitarist making the switch to piano. Current rig is a Casio CTK-700 with a small Laney amp.

I'd study how people play if I were yallz. Medeski Martin & Wood is a group with a very, very talented keyboard/organ/piano player. Or you can just type "funk organ" in youtube and just watch how people play, hear what they're actually doing. The best way to learn is to study and actually try to understand "what's happenin'." (In my opinion)
