I am actually very mad at something, I was watching Kissin playing La Campanella, and there is this comment saying that Yundi Li is better ( which i dont really mind), what make me wonder, is it true there are 100000+ Kissin'level pianists in China? If not, why cant all of them be as successful as him? And the comment said its all because of his hair:/ Well my main question is, is it true there are 100000+ Kissin;level pianist in China?

I'm not sure if there are that many, but realistically - how many concert pianists can make a living at any given point in time? There's only so much money and interest to be devoted to them by the music-going public.

I once talked to someone who dreamed of a utopian world in which nobody would be forced to do any sort of work that displeased them. On further questioning on how exactly that crazy idea would work, he suggested that everyone would get to pick their dream job. Well, we'd have a lot of actors and rock stars running around, and nobody would bother cutting grass, or selling gas heh heh!

There are probably many people who can play Kissin's repertoire (maybe not with the same fluency and ease). The reality is, there may be many who can play at a concert pianist level, but there are not many concert pianists (like Kissin).

You have not made it as an artist unless you got at least 3 people on youtube ranting about how much you suck..

I think you're onto something. Amateurs tend to have overwhelmingly positive comments.

I guess my son isn't an amateur then. grin

Actually, the youtube version of the drive-by shooting is quite common to amateurs and pros alike.

Oh, and Mark is right. There may be 100000+ fine young pianists in China, but very few will ever reach the stratosphere.

Kissin looks very unhappy after this performance of Chopin 10/12
maybe he's feeling the pressure of 100000+ Chinese pianists on their way to the top wink

I was not meaning only pros make negative comments, Piano dad is right, they come from all walks of life. Some people on there are never satisfied, and so many self professed experts. There just always seems to be at least one negative comment which sometimes I find them humorous.

He probably had to use the bathroom. Or maybe he's mad because he screwed up that last run.
